One look at that pic, and I think this sums it up.

Suggest you send a letter to your federal & state government representatives pointing out this is another "fee" that companies are ripping us off with.

This seems like the latest scam companies are pulling, fuck I hate millennial MBA's running companies.

Their logic is that with rising costs for Visa merchant transactions, they want to pass the cost along directly to those who use it. Secretly, they are hoping that users like Travis will forget about changing their payment methods and this becomes a cash cow (or as Biden would say, "junk fees").

What part about “energy company” made you think a millennial would be in charge?

Been watching the ownership and management of all sizes and types of companies pass into millennial MBA's hands and they are all the same, focused on the quick buck instead of longer term customer service & loyalty.
A by product of fewer companies controlling many of the markets so the MBA types don't see customers beyond how they can squeeze more cash from them.

I do not have CP but I am going to be on the lookout for this from others. What they will end up getting from me is a hand written check. That'll mean less time for me to post here, of course.

Most of the companies that have been adding these fees add them for everything except allowing them to withdraw funds directly from your bank account.

Last time I checked, a first-class postage stamp is still a lot less than $2.99 and opening/processing mail is still a PITA for the recipient...

Why are using autopay? It only take one glitch in their billing to take an extra $1k or $2k from your account. They should be paying you $2.99 to have autopay set up. They don't even need to send a bill, they just take your money, usually the first day it's due.

What I don't like about autopay, well other than having my bank account numbers subject to whichever hacker breaks into the corporate computer system, is that for accounts where the bill is a different amount every month we lose control of the amount of money in the account, putting us in jeopardy of not paying bills and incurring fees at the bank.

If baby boomers and millennials were equally to blame for the state of things, then maybe you'd be onto something. But, alas...

Hmmm...
Sounds like you want to apply Fuzzy Set Theory to the situation, which philosophically I'm all in with, but the lack of customer focus is a fairly recent development.

Cameron wrote:Yes, fees are extremely new, good point.
There has been a significant uptick in fees post covid.
I am old enough to remember when banks didn't charge fees or penalties but covered your check from an account that was overdrawn and had you come in and fix it.
The fee crazy world started, for me, with the banks, practically the home base for early MBA's.
Waiting to see gas stations adding in a "pump fee".
My rant about the age of the managers refers to how many more fees there are right now, post covid, with the mass retirement of baby boomers and younger managers taking over.

I have all kinds of odd beefery like this. I won't buy a shirt with a corporate logo on it... say Nike or Polo (see Bob and I share this perspective I bet). Why the hell should I be the payer for advertising an organization with which I have and desire no affiliation? They should pay me to wear the damn logo.

T-Mobile just did this to me - though a bit different - you "lose" the $10/month auto pay discount if you use a credit/debit card. Where I live the Verizon coverage absolutely sucks so it limits ones choices.
All of the utilities where I live (not in Michigan) charge a convenience fee for using a credit/debit card.
I hate providing my bank account number due to hacking risks, but there are risks in writing a check too. I have had my credit card number compromised too many times to count and also had fraudulent charges on a MSUFCU checking account (which probably had everything to do with asinine sequential numbering of accounts).

I’m there with you, to some extent. I don’t mind a small swoosh or whatever. But I won’t wear a shirt that has a giant “NIKE” plastered on the front. As for gas stations or other fees- On some level I dunno, it’s kinda more fair. This is capitalism afterall, they gonna get their money. A gas station or electric company that charges a fee to use a credit card because it is more expensive for them to process is more honest about the situation than the Nike shirt that is priced to include that transaction fee, whether you use a credit card or not.

The only comment is that "forever" has a different meaning for different generations.

T-mobile is doing this to us, also. Alstate is also. They charge us more if we pay by check, too.
