Yeah, pretty much. But I'd add that apart from the youth structure, it still isn't anywhere near our best athletes playing soccer. In the soccer world, Haaland is a freak of size, strength and agility. But physically he's a dime a dozen here in terms of football and basketball.Travis of the Cosmos wrote:Do we have the physical talent? Sure. We have the physical talent to win in any sport we want. The problem is our youth system which is nonsense. It’s a rich suburban white kid sport where you can only excel if you have the money to afford to play in things like travel soccer, which is expensive and again, nonsense. You’re not going to compete with Europe, where kids start in professional academies at like the age of 6 or with Brazil and Argentina where kids come out of the womb and grab a ball and start playing on the streets.
You can see that in the way the teams play too. A European team like say Germany is going to be well drilled, very tactical, etc. a Brazilian team is going to be really creative, like they spent their childhood having to figure out how to get around a guy 3 years older than them with no one telling them what to do. American teams don’t have either identity because they were the best player on their snobby travel team coached by their dad in portage Michigan on the weekend, so they’ve never really been challenged or taught the right way
Regarding the pay to play, that has gotten a little better over the last few years. There are academies of MLS and USL teams, and even European clubs set up things in the US. That helps, but those academies are going to miss a lot of people. And, of course, there is a lot of pay to play until you're 12, 14, 16, etc. And a lot of politics involved, as well.

Messi led the biggest failure in MLS history.NigelUno wrote:ATL United Shock the World

I'm an Inter Miami fan. And I hate Inter Miami. Specifically, I hate the club hierarchy, as well as Messi and the Barca Boys. Gave up my season tickets a year ago because of it. Fuck em all. They deserve this loss.
Not that the club cares. Winning is secondary to fellating Messi and his friends. Don't be surprised if Xavi is managing next year. Or even if Messi is player-manager (though I'm not sure if he's done his coaching badges).

I don't think anyone thought Atlanta had a chance. Especially in a best 2/3 series.
Not a big fan of Suarez.
Messi getting bounced isn't great for the league. Atlanta is kind of a rag tag bunch right now. Looks like Josef Martinez might find his way back next season.

The fact that it isnt good for the league is my favorite part. When a money grubbing organization doesn't get to grub as much money as they were hoping, I usually like that.NigelUno wrote:MiamiSpartan wrote:

Atlanta fans are frustrated with the team also. They like to buy good players, and then sell them at a pretty good profit, but have seemingly forgot fans like to support a winning team (and don't really care how much Arthur Blank makes).
