I lived in Winston-Salem, NC for a couple of years after undergrad. He had to live somewhere nearby, 'cause I ran into him at the local grocery store quite a few times. I'd always just nod and do the "whassup" thing. This was maybe about 1993-94.
but, growing up in ACC country in the 70's and early 80's, he was an icon. Back when all/most games were regionally televised, if that.

Shook Hull's hand at Gibralter Trade Center about 20 years ago when he was walking in for a card show / signing and I was walking out. Pretty cool considering I was watching him play 30 years before that. I don't think I ever head about the Hitler interview or spousal abuse though.

By ‘98, I was back in school and kept my head down to finish up. Paid no attention to outside forces. Like you, I had not heard about Hull’s interview, nor his abusive past. This article is a real eye opener. I’m also not surprised the Blackhawks welcomed Hull back into the fold. It might also Bee one reason why LWS loves his ‘Hawks.

Media was obviously a lot different back then. Stuff would get out and be reported. It could be seen by millions but still fly under your radar.

Yep. Information wasn’t nearly as accessible or as in-your-face. I do wish the author of that article had mentioned how Hull’s lawsuits turned out. I’ll look it up later, b/c I’m curious.

Before making movies, Dillon was nominated for a Tony Award in the original cast of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” on Broadway in the 1960s.
Serious chops.
