One of the chicks fell out of the nest about a half hour ago.

Junior was too eager going for the food, tripped over the front ledge.

Someone put the chick back about an hour and a half ago. Mom was in the nest at the time. She freaked.

The recovery was an interesting sequence if you wanna scroll back. Mom could hear the woman coming but couldn't see her. Afterward, all three chicks sat motionless and quiet for a long time....like, "WTH just happened?". Can see mom and dad flying in the background, chasing the woman away. They cruised over the roof a long time afterward.

So, if I leave a chicken on the ground will mom or dad pick it up and deliver it to the kids? What if I toss pieces in the air ?

Thought about human interference with nature but okay with it. Afterall, mom and dad didn't build the nest with the trip hazard...they're squatters.

Mom is firmly latched onto the balcony rail tonight, likely still wondering how the 3rd chick got back in the nest after hitting the deck.

Actually providing the food wouldn’t happen because of the interference you mentioned. I was more curious if they’d take the raw food.

Get a kick out of watching the things. Wingspans are huge. This group seems bigger than last year...maybe cause there's only three of them. They do bird yoga/stretching. Couple of them get their feet tangled with each other then fight to get them apart...looks like they do it on purpose. The three of them will line up at the front of the box looking out, with their eyes and heads moving/looking in unison at the same place. I imagine they're watching mom and dad in flight, taking lessons.

Think all have been on front ledge of the box but haven't seen one venture to the side rails yet.

They're pretty big. Wingspans would spread over two thirds the box width, guesstimating at three feet. Think two are female...bigger than the 3rd.

They seem to be getting a little crazy. Wouldn't be surprised if all left the nest in the next week.

One of the birdies managed to hop out onto the perch and waggle around a bit before making a successful return to the box. Another one wants to hop out but can't quite figure out how . . .

then, later, one of the birds made it all the way out to the far perch and hopped/flew back into the box. Now they're all just face-down in the gravel.

Mom/dad bring kill, drop it off/get it snatched, and get the hell out of there ASAP now. Sometimes two will have talons in the kill and drag each other around via the dead bird. This group seems more aggressive than last year.

some guy who looked like a construction worker approached the nest and one of the birds flew away. Later, it returned. They're about ready to leave home, it seems.

Been speculating what happened this morning. Can see two guys on the roof in the background before it happened. Mom/dad were cruising the roof trying to chase them off. No idea why the guy was that close to the nest. You'd think someone would have told him to stay away. Bird freaked. The way it came out of the nest it was headed toward the edge of the roof just a few feet in front. Long drop from there. Didn't see it running on the roof afterward.

Guessing the bird managed to glide down and land somewhere safely. Someone found (many watching the cam) and got it back in the nest. Hope the roof guy got his ass chewed.
