which is why..
a) anti-America, anti-democracy types are attempting to switch the conversation to "Biden is old".
and..
b) I suspect the anti-America, anti-democracy republicans/libertarians already have a plan in place to contest the election in November, to not certify the election if it goes against their christian hero, and gets kicked to the courts. And we know how that will end.
of course people will try to gaslight folks like me into minimizing these thoughts and opinions and while their gaslighting might shut up their wives, girlfriends, mistresses and daughters, it won't work with me.
we are on the very real precipice of losing our democracy, but let's all talk about Joe Biden being old.

On covered it. Basically we take 50% of what Trump says as mindless bullshit enacted through meaningless executive orders. Now he has a pathway to legally do what he threatens.
I think it may backfire in that some people will now not risk voting for Trump with their lukewarm support.

That should take about 3 seconds. You did all this shit before you became President? Trump the Felon: yes. Thanks, wow, that wasn't clear at all to me, glad I asked.
Maybe. It's a theory anyways. No idea what people will do on a macro scale. You also assume the people bailing on trump exceed the extremist unAmerican folks that are more attracted to him based on the things he said.

Now, the hush money conviction is up in the air. Prosecutors used a federal ethics form trump filled out as evidence and that is now banned by scotus to be used as evidence, for some reason. This scotus decision just gets worse and worse. It's completely unmoored from any constitutional backing and now turns absolutely everything into a grey area. The limits are not defined and so that's about as good as not having limits, for trump. This is the grey area crap that trump thrives in. The dissenters were absolutely right, they've created a king.

Basically just direct democracy.
The rebuff to expanding the court is always “well if we make it 11 they’ll just make it 13!” Okay fine that’s true so fuck it, make everyone a Supreme Court justice. Liberal policies are always more popular anyway, it’s the republicans who want this in the hands of a select few elites not democrats. Need to make a decision on an abortion law? Sure, let’s let the 350,000,000 Supreme Court justices vote on it.
We can pay them all a salary too, so we get a UBI win win out of it too so that’s nice

How do you vote on something that requires an act of congress? Seems a lot more doable with a super majority.

Same way justices do now bro. Congress passed it, someone challenges it in courts, and the Supreme Court ultimately votes on if the law stays or not.kingstonlake wrote:Travis of the Cosmos wrote:Basically just direct democracy.

The long and short of it is that the constitution only says that the court has to exist. It doesn’t say how many members it needs to have. So the bar for adding more is significantly lower than you would need for something like a constitutional amendment, and thus achievable if you can get the ruling class democrats on board (which….)DWags wrote:Travis of the Cosmos wrote:

So... essentially ballot initiatives on a national scale.
I'm down for the big ones doing this, but a lot goes in front of the court that none of us care to understand or want to vote on. Also a lot of it is very complicated 349,000,000/350,000,000 wouldn't understand

The problem with that is that the unamerican and corrupt SCOTUS that was stolen and packed by unamerican and corrupt republicans is essentially the arbiter of what is and is not an "official act". Wanna take a guess where they will land on biden "official acts" and Trump "official acts"?
Their open claim of "originalism" and how that makes ruling much more clear and black/white is a steaming pile of shit. They've already shown the propensity to twist and turn their decisions on whatever whim it is that day, originalism be damned. It's a farce, a lie. Just like the unamerican and corrupt SCOTUS that was stolen and packed by the unamerican and corrupt republicans, this is simply a way to deflect responsibility/blame for unpopular decisions..."sorry, it's not us, it's the constitution... do you want to get rid of the constitution or something?"

Would it get just sent back to her, though? Or would it go to a new judge? I don't see how she could preside over a new one after this. At least not until she gets that Supreme Court nomination a year from now and gets to help formally end it forever.
