The Tigers are fixing up run-down Comerica Park ahead of Opening Day with $30M investment

Well, this is welcome news for anyone who’s visited Comerica Park in recent years — the Detroit Tigers have reportedly invested nearly $30 million in renovations to the dilapidated stadium ahead of Opening Day.

According to Crain’s Detroit Business, “Fans will notice big changes at the stadium when the team returns to town April 5, including a massive new videoboard, new TVs throughout the concourse and audio enhancements.”

Over the summer, Metro Times columnist Joe Lapointe reported on the sorry state of the Ilitch-owned Comerica Park during a recent visit, documenting glitched-out TVs, speakers that don’t work, unusable drinking fountains, frozen clocks, a closed carousel, and empty seats. The stadium first opened in 2000, nearly a quarter-century ago.

Last year there was some chipped cement on the steps some of the seats in various places had cup holders broken off. Etc. to me, I’ll compare it to the idiots that don’t do basic maintenance every week or month to their car and then have to pay a crap load of money to get something fixed I don’t think the tigers and Illich were willing to do basic maintenance every year.

This rule might piss some people off. I’m absolutely positive. It’s going to have an effect on games. It’s gonna be hard to break that habit of blocking the plate.

I haven't kept up with the rule changes, but what did the fielder do wrong there? There was nothing in that video that was unsafe other than throwing a hard baseball. Are they going to get rid of that next?

He had his foot in front of the bag plus it was considered partially blocking the bag when the runner was sliding.

I suppose it makes sense, the runner could have just barreled through the fielder if he wanted, busted that ankle.

I just look back at last season and they had one losing streak that was like 9 games I think. They split that and they’re a .500 team a year ago.

I know where you’re going here and I don’t disagree. But I think people are to hard on Monroe. He keeps it simple. Doesn’t try to dazzle you with creative takes. Can’t think of the gal that does national games for ESPN but she’s horrible. Tries to dazzle you with hot takes and does way to much breaking down of a simple ground ball to second. Monroe keeps it simple. Sure he’s kinda “baseball for idiots” but he doesn’t ruin a broadcast.

Side note. Watched a Marlins preseason game. Rod Allen is still good.
