This week Friday will be the 25th anniversary of the Detroit Tigers playing their last game at Tiger Stadium.

Saw some photos of the crowd and it struck me how fans brought their film cameras to that game until I realized the first iPhone came out in January 2007.

My wife was the winning bidder on four tickets to the last game. We were in left field, underneath the upper deck. What an incredible day, but I’m still sad TS is gone. The colors inside the ballpark were always nearly iridescent, made especially so walking through the dark and dirty corridors. That field was so beautifully green. I got chills every time I went to my seats.

I was at that game too Greenway. I honestly cried as all the former greats took the field at the corner for the last time

No smartphones but there were digital cameras by then. Remember paying $1300 for a 1.6 megapixel Kodak when they first came out.

I was at the last game. Upper deck, left field. Moved to Florida 2 months later, and have never been to Comerica.

I took lots of pictures with my film camera. I'll have to dig it up, but I took a picture, with the bases loaded, as the pitcher threw the ball, a split second before Robert Fick hit it up on the roof.

I had to look up who hit it just now (I knew it was a short name that started with F, but all I could think of was Carlton Fisk or PJ Fleck). I don't think I realized that that was the last hit ever at the old ballpark. And that it was the 11,111th home run hit there. But Wikipedia tells me that both of those were the case.

He used to live a few houses down from a buddies parents house in HS/college. We’d often be hanging out on deck and Wayn-o would roll up in the wee hours. A couple of times feverishly honking his horn got someone to open the garage door. Typically 90s suburbanite home in Rochester, nothing like palace Campbell lives in.

Rolling mills jobs are dangerous.  Had a high school buddy who worked at one and as a boondoggle I interviewed there.  Watching tons of red-hot steel, which start out about 3 to 5 feet thick, go down the strip mill line and turn into a roll of sheet steel the thickness of the metal in a car's fender is amazing and scary as all get-out.

It's amazing how after being unable to sleep half the night I can fall asleep within seconds of the alarm clock going off.

Don't let this get into political discourse, but on days like this when there is a debate, I always think about 1992 and MSU hosting a Bush, Clinton, Perot debate. I lived in East Shaw at the time, literally 1/4 mile from Wharton Center where it took place. Pretty cool and incredible to have going on while a student.

Got a new truck a month back. My wife dropped the kid off in it this morning and left it running for me to go to the doctor right after. So I get in and drive, then I get to the doc 20 minutes away and the car says “remote not detected”. I don’t have the keys, they’re in her pocket. 

I guess my question is why does the car even let me do that? If I try to drive without the key, even if it’s already running, my jeep says fuck you go get the key. But apparently the truck doesn’t give a shit it just needs to be turned on once then is good to drive wherever

My car doesn't have remote start. But it does have a fob. It also has a reg-lar key just like from 1970. Do I carry the fob? Hell no. I have other keys too, why the hell do I want to carry around that stupid fob all day with my ring of keys I need? Just to avoid turning my wrist twice a day? While we're on it, I don't need a TV in my car either. Just more shit to cause problems bigger than what they were supposed to solve.

I dropped my wife and daughter off at a dance recital once in her jeep.  I had to drive about four blocks down to find a parking spot   I didn’t have her keys either, and I was worried the car would shut off, but it didn’t    So her jeep let me do that  

Just curious though did the car somehow warn you you didn’t have the keys?  Like maybe did it beep twice at you?   Maybe when you shut the door    Maybe it did and you didn’t notice?

Maybe it beeped, I’m not sure. It’s a new truck, there’s lots of beeps that I’m not familiar with what it’s telling me. 

When I got out of the car a message that said “remote not detected” displayed which is when I was 20 miles away or so and said uh oh.

Now that you mention it I’m not positive that I’ve ever tried to drive the jeep with the fob out of it. I know that if it’s on the second I get out of the car a message displays that says “fob has left the vehicle” but it stays on. Maybe I just assumed that it wouldn’t let me drive. I’ll have to check it out once I get a new battery, which is the whole reason I was driving the truck in the first place.

The jeep doesn’t have a regular key. Fun random bit of knowledge, if the fob dies and you need to start the car and can’t immediately replace the button battery in there, you just need to put the end of the fob up to the keyless start and it will start. Must be magnets in there or some shit

Sounds like it has a phoenix feather core. My daughter has one like that on a vehicle she bought used. It doesn't work. The fob chooses the driver I guess.

My car beeps at me if the keys are not in it. Hope that helps. Both are Toyota.

I could tell you how it works but you guys hate that.  Magnets is a good analogy.  With crow feathers. In the Bronco Sport you have to lift up a shelf mat and put the fob in the indentation underneith

I am on my way to Australia via Doha. Our flight plan brings us over the entire length of Iraq. Hopefully Iran and Israel can take a night off from shooting missiles and drones at each other.
