Definitely not inept the last three years. Did something change? Because to the best of my memory he was routinely out coached in big or even mid games.

Hot seat coach that started cheating, started beating the spread, got better croots, then won the natty is mediocre. (Without cheating)

Yeah, that may be. They didn't love him the first time around.kingstonlake wrote:I’d speculate that the NFL might not be as impressed with his natty/college career as the rest of the media heads are. He’s the same guy he’s always been. If anything he’s gotten more weird.

Did you read or listen to that? He was going to get axed until he begged his brother for coaches, then they won. Maybe not inept, but it sounds like he couldn't figure it out, including finding the right coaches, until his brother did it for him.

I said it before Michigan hired him, and it still rings true now. Jim isn't the Harbaugh that would make me nervous coaching Michigan.

read the whole thing. part of being a college football coach, or majority of it, is hiring the right people under you. it's like a CEO.

And the point is he could not do that independent of his brother; until he called his brother and said "send me some coaches, bro." Does this mean if his brother said no, is not coaching, or does not exist, Jim would have just gone on being 9-3 or 10-2 and losing to OSU every year? The story of this team is their defense and he got that from his brother. Sounds like his brother is the real hero of the story. Also, Gene Chizik has a national title so we don't need to pretend like everyone who wins one is a super duper best of all-time coach.
Edit: Yes, this really is just sour grapes stuff but let me do it and move along please.

Turtleneck wrote:Wait, how did this not get more coverage? Maybe I'm being petty, but I guess Jim Harbaugh is a little brother and a little brother. He couldn't get it done so he allegedly got his brother to make it work for him. I am posting this because UM fans are bragging that the Ravens will supply them with an endless number of brilliant defensive coaches. Anyway, all this says to me is that Jim is inept and couldn't get it done without John sending him coaches.
“Ravens the best team in the NFL, Michigan looks like the best team in college football, what’s the connection?” - Cowherd
“The connection runs so much deeper than anyone actually realizes. It goes back to the Covid year when there was talk when Jim Harbaugh was going to be fired. Michigan wanted to walk away from Jim and restart and do something else. And they stuck with him and he took that reduced contract, and Jim’s move, his switch, was calling his brother. He said ‘hey man, I have to get it right and I have to beat Ohio State specifically’. And he called John and said ‘I need your defense, give me two guys’. And John gave him Mike MacDonald and Jesse Minter. John said ‘choose one’. Jim told John ‘I don’t want to choose, both of these guys are great, I can take either one’. John says ‘ well you gotta choose and the other will go coordinate at Vanderbilt’. So Jim chooses Mike MacDonald and MacDonald was the defensive coordinator at Michigan for 2021. Jesse went to Vanderbilt in order to get coordinating experience from that tree. Mike then goes back to Baltimore after 2021 to become the defensive coordinator. So what does Jim do? ‘ Give me the other guy’. And so he brings in Jesse Minter. And now Jesse Minter and Mike MacDonald are both coordinating the two best defenses in football. And they’re running a very similar if not the exact same scheme. And now what you’re starting to see in the NFL and college ranks is that people are chasing down this scheme. They all want a piece of what’s going on. And what’s going on is that they built a run front with their defensive tackles, they play hard edges on the outsides with those rush ends, and they got hybrid players in the middle of their defense - linebacker, nickel, and safety - with good solid cover guys on the edge. And that’s what they’ve built, both of them. And they’re eerily similar and you’ve seen them dominate both levels of football in the NFL and college. And it goes back to that covid year - Jim calling John and saying ‘I want your two best best and brightest young guys’ and John gave them Mike MacDonald and Jesse Minter." - Joel Klatt
I wonder if an NFL owner will read that, and wonder if John will help his lil bro out as an NFL Coach.

It was the brilliant anticipation of UM's offense and defense. Almost as if they were in the opposing teams' huddle. Such great coaching and high football IQ among those UM players to sense what plays the opposition was going to run.kingstonlake wrote:I’m still confused how really good OSU teams with the soon to be ROY QB in the nfl were blown out by UM. Just kidding. It's an image of a post from another forum saying the NCAA has talked with CMU.

Re: Obsession - the tears of my enemies.
If umaa offers a 9 year $11.5M/per season deal on the table and includes a Sargent Schultz/Bill Self clause (I know nothing and can’t be held personally responsible for anything my staff does) he may stay. Â Reportedly a major sticking point for some at umaa.
If the Chargers give him a five year deal worth $15M/season it would be $1M more than the Rams are paying McVay, Harbaugh would be back in CA and leave any penalties the NCAA might impose on umaa to the next guy.
