Old guys may remember this name:

Dr. Jerry Argovitz, 85, of Houston. First a dentist, then a sports agent, then owner of the USFL’s Houston Gamblers. Argovitz died May 8th.
He became a hated name among fans of the Detroit Lions after signing RB Billy Sims to a contract with the Gamblers, which started a huge legal fight over Sims’ services after Sims signed another contract with the Lions. A judge voided the Houston contract and Sims stayed with Detroit.

I remember the Monday Night game ( at least I think it was MNF) when Sims was introduced before the game and the announcer (think it was Gifford) was perplexed because Billy was under contract with two teams.

Only reason to tune in a late weekend Pac-12 game was to listen to Bill's commentary.

Walton’s game announcing and in interviews with Dan Patrick were broadcasting gold.

You never knew when he’d start talking basketball or go off on a tangent about The Grateful Dead.

Probably one of the most dominant college basketball players we’ll ever see.

Not to disparage either Walton or Wooden, but if anyone thinks Wooden was pure landing Alcindor from NY city then Walton, plus all their side kicks, I have a bridge in Baltimore to sell you. Only nicked once. Wooden had bags of cash. Guaranteed.

But. Back to Walton. Guy was worth watching a game just for him. He and Wooden would exchange poetry right up to Woden’s death. Two men of letters.

DWags, Walton was going to plays basketball UCLA regardless of who else Wooden recruited because his older brother Bruce (born in June '51 was already at UCLA playing football when UCLA offered his kid brother Bill.

Now those also recruited were a different story. UCLA was the UK and KU of the West.

No, not me. I absolutely love the 17+ minute version, probably because that’s the version we played when I was a wee one. Played it once today. The video is period-appropriate groovy, too.

A friend who was just starting in radio when the commercial station that hired him out of college switched over to Rock and "Album Rock" after months where he and another new hire of convinced the owner the 18-24 demo would listen to the same album rock they played at their college stations from 10 pm to 6 am.

He guessed the Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album was responsible for a lot of Night shift DJ's scoring with a lot of women in the studio. Send the sound engineer out for take out at some 24 hour eatery and cue up Iron Butterfly.

I remember every party I went to that was playing Iron Butterfly had the potential of a contact high.

Legendary Clarkston High School coach Dan Fife has died at 73. 36 years at Clarkston, 2 state championships and third in wins all time. His sons Dugan and Dane starred for him but probably most known for giving us Foster Loyer and Thomas Kithier.

I know he was sick for a while but don't know with what. I did read that Dane has been caring for him which is one of the reasons he hasn't sought another job in coaching.

Former Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders, 90, died when the plane he was piloting crashed in Washington state. Anders took the iconic “Earthrise” photo during his NASA space mission.

Anders was perhaps the most accomplished of the Apollo astronauts. Not only was he a graduate of the Naval Academy he became an Air Force pilot and got a masters degree in nuclear engineering. After his astronaut career (among other things) he became chair of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and later was chairman of General Dynamics.

I couldn't care less about a person's preferred method of demise. Unless it has an effect on the general public. And now him and the airplane have to be fished out of the water. The NTSB will likely have to investigate. A perfectly good airplane is now trash. All that shit costs money. A lot of it will likely be public money. That's where I have a problem.

The public money will help recovery and investigation professionals feed and house their families, and as they do that they will allow other workers to earn money. Sometimes I crash my shit just to help the economy.

The plane was an old T-34 trainer probably built in the 40's or 50's. He was drawn into flying old "warbirds" by his Apollo 8 commander, the late and great Frank Borman.

The crash isn't going to cost anybody any money. The NTSB people were getting paid no matter if they were doing paperwork at the office or an investigation. The NTSB budget will not be affected.

Whether you choose do die with hookers or while flying a plane at 90, the first thing is to get to 90.

Just remember that argument about money when you complain about the government doing other things.

It can get a bit awkward when your money runs out before your heart does. Speaking from experience.

Who was going to tell the 90 year old Anders who’d been flying for close to 70 years that he was grounded?

Don’t think there was rush to get in the line at the FAA to tell Anders they were rescinding his pilot’s license.
