The Logo’s second career as an NBA executive with the Laker, Grizzlies, Warriors and finally the Clippers was as impressive as his playing career.

Howard Fineman, 75. Journalist and TV commentator. His wife said he’d had pancreatic cancer. Fineman was one of my all-time favorites. Fuck cancer.

He only spoke in facts and truth and never let hyperbole take hold. Fineman was a gentleman who never raised his voice to be heard, even as those around him were shouting what were oftentimes lies and half-truths.

It was on Olbermann’s show that I first heard him, though I’d read some of his stuff previously. I wasn’t aware of the split between them. I did see him on Hardball and Maddow, too.

Deadliest Catch’s Nick Mavar suffered a medical emergency and died at the age of 59. He was on the show from 2005-2021. Even though I was a regular viewer for a few seasons, I can’t remember this guy. He was on F/V Northwestern.

Thought Sutherland earned an Oscar for Ordinary People in 1981 but the Academy voters thought differently.

Ordinary People won Best Picture, Best Director (Robert Redford), Best Screen from another medium (Judith Guest wrote the novel) and Timothy Hutton won Best Supporting Actor.

Mary Tyler Moore was nominated for Best Actress. (Sissy Spacek won for Coal Miner's Daughter) and Robert DeNiro won Best Actor for Raging Bull. Sutherland didn't get nominated.

Always thought Sutherland an his agent(s) wasn't good at playing the game.
