Re: Michigan State Basketball 2024-25
Starting Lineup: Fears-Aikens-Fiddler-Booker-Zapala. Zappa is the only surprise to me I assumed it would be Kohler. Let's pretend for a minute this is starting lineup. The front line would go 6-7, 6-11 and 7-0. That trickles down to the backups at 6-5, 6-9, 6-11. And our guards aren't small. This seems like the biggest Izzo team I can remember. I suspect the starting 5 spot will be based on matchup/heath/who is hot. Fears starting was a relief. I don't know how much doubt there was, but still a relief.
Body Types (aka Dwag Porn): Kohler stuck out to me. Look, he is not jacked by any means. There is definitely some muscle on his chest and shoulders that was not there before. His legs also look slimmer. He had tree trunk calves. They now have shape. He has quick feet around the rim, but watching him run up and down the court last year made my knees hurt. Carr had a new hairdo. All the other returners looked pretty much the same. Booker didn't stand out as out of place or look noticeably different.
Teng/Richardson: These two were intriguing. Teng was drilling 3s and they looked to have a legit stroke. Jace didn't do anything to blow me away. He played with energy and didn't look out of control. They both look like they can play right away.

Kohler caught my eye, too. I didn’t keep track of how many he made, but it looks like he’s adjusted his three-point shot. It has a Joey Hauser, straight-line feel to it. Kohler still needs work on ball-handling, specifically catching the ball and going up with his shot.

I think Zapala starting is prep for games with big centers...like Kansas.
Or maybe Cooper was banged up a little?
Would like to have seen more from Fidler. I wasn't paying enough attention...maybe he sat because of foul trouble...in an exhibition though?

Let’s focus on the important part: Carr’s new hairdo. I was disappointed to see that. Izzo’s freshmen who have had great hairstyles traditionally come back the next year with boring heads. Shannon Brown, Chris Allen, Aaron Henry, etc. I’ve always figured that Izzo is opposed to crazy hair, but I thought he had relaxed that policy with A.J. Hoggard the past few years. Does anyone here know more about this?

It was very perplexing. He also had a cutoff sleeve undershirt, which was new. The whole look was confusing my brain. With so many new guys I had to look up who 55 was a couple of times for confirmation. But that’s what these preseason games are for.

This season is going to be a journey. Lots of lineup experimenting. There are going to lots and lots of posts about Izzo sub patterns. Though, I do disagree with his overall opinion that this strictly a growing year. I see options and potential if things start to gel.

I think you’re selling yourself short. Let’s take a look at the other recap:
“It's a similar situation with sophomore forward Coen Carr, who has oscillated between the small forward and power forward positions his entire time in East Lansing. While Carr had some of his brightest flashes in Spain as an undersized, uber-athletic, havoc-creating 4-man, we saw him at the 3 backing up Fidler against the Wildcats. Carr appears to have tightened up his handle, which bodes will for him on the perimeter, obviously, but his jump shot remains a question. Too often, his lack of shooting prowess last year bogged down the offense, and if defenders can sag off of him again this year, that might force Izzo and Co. to rethink how he's deployed. And again, there's a domino effect. If Carr isn't playing at the 4 that much, there's fewer perimeter minutes for Teng and Normand.”
No mention of Carr’s hair. You are the better analyst.

I don't see Carr getting a ton of minutes with 2 other bigs in a game. And I don't think we've seen anything from Normand to be worried about his minutes.
RCMB take is bad.

I think I figured out why OTPT left, because Booker still looks lost on D and his take last year was so bad he feels shame.

I'm not expecting miracles out Booker's D. I think we are going to have to accept it. He's gotta rebound, block a couple shots and score double digit points.

This is a message board, GreenWay. What a silly question. We can all dunk with ease on a regulation bucket. Personally, I practice my dunking on a 12' room because 10' is boring.

I can sometimes get BTN+ if I point my rabbit ears toward Chicago. It’s pretty fuzzy, but if I use tinfoil and have one of the kids hold the antenna wire above their head, I can see which team has the ball.

Carr can jump. Akins played OK.
Monmouth put us in the bonus about 2 minutes into the 2nd half. That helped.
