So far it looks like Izzo’s game plan is start 3 guards with 2 bigs substituting Richardson as a guard and bringing in Booker, Carr, Cooper and Fidler.
No rest for opponent’s starting five and forcing their coaches to go deeper on the bench.
Win using a war of attrition.

Who’s over their ski’s? Izzo’s long bench helps. Shooting better than 80% from the FT line does too.
The Top 6 teams in the Big Ten will have between 4-6 conference losses each come March.

Good, as a Spartan Brass member in 1975, watching Indiana bury Gus's squad when the back players didn't play, I may have a negative perspective.

Re: Michigan State Basketball 2024-25
Somebody said this was a fun team to watch. I contend it’s because this is the type of game most of us like to watch. We have a team that gets its ass up and down the floor. This is also a team that will share the ball if somebody has a better shot than they do.. it’s a team that’s not afraid to mix it up under the boards, and finally, it’s a team that can make foul shots. ( how frustrating is it to watch a team that misses free throws?).
I’m not declaring this team a final four team, but it’s fun to watch them Let’s hope they keep growing
1. Michigan State is No. 3 in the country in fastbreak points per game (20.5)
2. MSU is No. 6 in the nation in rebound margin (11.4)
3. MSU is No. 13 in free throw shooting (80.4%) — also No. 49 in attempts (24 per game)
4.MSU is No. 17 in the country in assists per game (18.2)

I'm not a fan of Muldowny. Pretty much all the guy does is "report" on other reports as he fancies himself a reporter. Then he sprinkles in his opinions which are almost always nonsense. Like last year when nearly every post was calling out Izzo for not playing Booker.

That always gets me. It happens most often during the NCAA tournament when the sports talk guys are previewing games. Well, you know Izzo. Sparty is gonna try to slow it down and play defense so if they can dictate the pace expect a game in the 50s or 60s.
You would think that at some point the final score of 87-82 would register with them and they wouldn’t say the same shit before the next game, but the next game comes and they say the same shit.

That would require preparing for games. Most don’t go into a job in the toy department thinking they’ll have homework. It would be nice if a few of those reporters saw the Nebraska game. That was what TI wants to do with this team.

3. MSU is No. 13 in free throw shooting (80.4%) — also No. 49 in attempts (24 per game)
4.MSU is No. 17 in the country in assists per game (18.2)
This has been referenced before (as a winning formula of sorts)...
The Four Factors:
1. Effective field goal percentage is like regular field goal percentage except that it gives 50% more credit for made three-pointers.
eFG% = (.5*3FGM + FGM) / FGA
2. Turnover percentage is a pace-independent measure of ball security.
TO% = TO / Possessions
3. Offensive rebounding percentage is a measure of the possible rebounds that are gathered by the offense.
OR% = OR / (OR + DRopp)
Keep in mind that rebounding percentage is computed from box score data which does not contain team rebounds. Therefore, the figures shown here may differ slightly from calculations made on the rebounding totals provided by a school.
4. Finally, free throw rate captures a team’s ability to get to the free throw line.
FTRate = FT / FGA
Those stats all appear here: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/seasons/men/2025-advanced-school-stats.html
If you tweak it a little you can see where we're ranked in each.
eFG% - Currently 52.9 #143/364 (not great, but we haven't made a bunch of 3s...need to bring this up)
TOV% - Currently 14.5 #136 (not bad, but also not great)
ORB% - Currently 35.9 #58 (this is good, and our overall RB% is #8)
FT/FGa - Currently 32.4 #18 (this is good)
I think we're attacking the basket more (which leads to more FTs). Hopefully that's just not confirmation bias on my part. Turnovers are emphasized every year. And obviously not rocket science, but we have to shoot better from 3.
I think the team is fun to watch because we have a bunch of guys with a scorer's mentality...Fidler, Akins (sometimes), Richardson (has the green light obviously), Holloman (when needed), Book is getting there, Carr drives (and not just for dunks), Kohler wants the ball in the post.
Would love for Fears to drive more.
