I believe that the government should have given the 25 billion they gave to Raytheon in 2022 directly to me instead and I don’t think that is intellectually limited but actually very smartPervis Muldoon wrote:PennSpartan wrote:

Many people would prefer that the government spend money only on those things which directly benefit them. All of those people are intellectually limited. I could try to explain how you may indirectly benefit from some policies that you’re against, but why bother?

Cancel all of it please.Except it’s not even the big banks that get the money, it’s the government. All that extra interest that students have to pay is effectively just an extra tax levied only on college grads, which is absurd. The idea is that you go to college and you make more money, and generally that’s true. The governments incentive to finance that for you is extra revenue vis income tax. But with insane student loan terms, they’re effectively double dipping specifically on only that subset of people which is absurd.DWags wrote:
Yeah, I know some of the stories are true after 20 years of paying $700 dollars a month on a 130 k lian they still owe 110k or something like that. I have no idea if those stories are true and I’m sure many fall into that minimum payment loan. I’m also not here to place blame, but I’m shocked that, after a mega bank has got their money back plus half again the Main Street people in America side with the banks. “It’s the kids fault”. “They should know”. Shit line that. Pay a bank $150k on a $100k loan and car salesmen, night club workers, appliance salesmen, store owners, small business people, real estate salesmen don’t side with a student who could put 700 bucks a month into the economy, but these people want the big banks to have it.
Maybe I’m off base but that’s how it seems to me. I’m not for whipping the slate cleaner but maybe make a rule that if you’ve doubled the banks money, you’re clear. But if they wipe out all loans I’m not pissed at these kids because I didn’t get some, I’m happy for them. Spend that money kids. We’ve been over this 1000 times so I don’t know why I’m bothering, but no, you do not need to pay for student loan forgiveness. No one does. It’s not an expense to the government. People stop paying, that’s it. Nothing goes out.PennSpartan wrote:

This is just so wrong I had to respond. Yes, taxpayers will foot the bill. You can’t just say it will go away.

Sorry I interrupted your thread again, Cam.

That article is silly nonsense and you should put Rick Newman on a list of people you keep to never read again. Read it, seriously. The premise is this “ Future taxpayers will essentially pay the bill.”
First of all, Penn, you are of an age where you don’t really need to worry about this. So no, that’s not a concern for you personally. Secondly, it’s taking the famously stupid stance that the national debt is a credit card that eventually needs to be paid, which is stupid and incorrect. Thirdly, it’s flimsy as hell. It’s just being written for people like you to say look see!

I added another link just for you. I can’t believe a college graduate would think a loan can just go away. If so, I would have stopped paying my mortgage after the first month.Travis of the Cosmos wrote:That article is silly nonsense and you should put Rick Newman on a list of people you keep to never read again. Penn I’m not going to get into the kind of protracted back and forth with you that you are famous for- but that happens all the time in the real world. Like, all the time. And I assure you, when it does, no one is paying anything. That’s the whole thing. If I give Penn a dollar and then I say don’t worry about paying it back, no one is making me whole. That’s how debt forgiveness works. And again, it happens all the time.

This will be my last comment on this because it’s unfair to hijack Cam’s thread.Travis of the Cosmos wrote:Penn I’m not going to get into the kind of protracted back and forth with you that you are famous for- but that happens all the time in the real world. If the government could truly absorb endless debt, then they should forgive everyone’s loans. Mortgages, auto loans, credit card debt, everything. Why not? In fact, why pay taxes? Let the government pay for everything. Kind of blows a hole in Bernie’s idea to make the rich pay more taxes, huh? It’s a nonsense idea. There is no free lunch.

Back on topic of the UK unrest, please.
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn5rr1433k3o
The wave of violent unrest and disorder across parts of the UK continued on Monday night as police came under attack in Belfast, Darlington and Plymouth.
Six people were arrested in Plymouth while several officers suffered minor injuries in the violence, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
In South Belfast, riot officers had stones and petrol bombs thrown at them in an area close to a supermarket which was set on fire at the weekend.
Earlier, a vigil was held for the victims of a mass stabbing in Southport last week which sparked the unrest. Nearly 400 people have been arrested since the rioting began.
From later in the article...
Downing Street also criticised X owner Elon Musk for claiming "civil war is inevitable" in the UK, with officials suggesting online misinformation fuelling disorder on Britain's streets might be amplified by foreign state actors.
Sir Keir posted a video on X saying the unrest "is not protest, it is pure violence".
He added: "We will not tolerate attacks on mosques or on Muslim communities."
Mr Musk replied: "Shouldn't you be concerned about attacks on *all* communities?"
IMO Musk is trying to destroy the free world in hopes of becoming a "Lord"
Re: So the UK is kinda fucked up right now...
He said the current wave of violence had been triggered by “lies spread through social media” and “we need to do something about that”.
On X far-right activist and convicted criminal Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, spent the weekend posting inflammatory messages to thousands of followers, all from the safety of a sun lounger in Cyprus.
Robinson was handed back his X account last November by the social media firm’s billionaire owner Elon Musk.
Mr Musk himself posted this weekend where he said civil war in the UK was “inevitable”.
X has not replied to the BBC’s requests for comment.

I’m sorry for being a part of messing up your thread, Cam. You actually seem like one of the sane ones here, even though we differ on opinions.Cameron wrote:Thousands of counter-protesters take to streets after week of riots

Looks like the majority of UK is ready to take on these racists, even if Musk supports them.

I am very heartened by the counter protests. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

British anti-immigrant white supremacists encouraged and fueled by social media used the murder of 3 school age girls at a dance class as a reason for insurrection.
Musk is pond scum. He allows his social media to send all kinds of mis-information and inflammatory messages but shuts down Harris fund raising messages as potential threats of fraud.
