First, I find this single side point of view that so many posters exhibit to be boring. It's also ironic that instead of looking at all sides you are shutting out opposing viewpoints.
As for Harris continuing on with the Biden/Trump agreed to debate, she does it for one reason, to gain more votes.
Old farts will watch, MSM types & SM types will both talk about it, which lead to voters turning out. It's not that hard to answer this, Penn.
And to counter your next (obvious) post, yes, there are still old farts like you who watch MSM, though the debates will be streamed on SM too, who Harris wants to vote for her.
Young kids are on their phones all the time. They'll get social media updates from the debate. They don't have the patience to watch the whole thing (yes...that's a generalization).
Social media (and little 10-15 second moments) will impact them more than watching the news (or debate). Harris needs young(er) people to vote. Biden wasn't exactly creating any buzz there (or anywhere).

I agree. There is no denying they get their information on the phone. That’s not necessarily a good thing, though. There is so much false information out there that is difficult for them to filter out. Hopefully it improves over time.

Yeah man lots of people tuning into the radio to get their newsPennSpartan wrote:Travis of the Cosmos wrote:
No, it won’t. Not until you’re dead, and probably a decent interval after that, so I’ll never collect. That’s the whole point my guy.
And it won’t “go away”. But it will eventually go the way of radio
Go the way of radio? Radio is still huge. There are thousands of stations nationwide. The right wing audience on radio political shows is massive. Swing and a miss, Travis.

The MSM also is like a mob with mob group think, and a defined information path from disinformation by propagandists to the front page of tNYT.

Trump went to Arlington National Cemetery for a campaign photo op / wreath ceremony and visit graves of two soldiers who died during the pull out of Afghanistan where Trump had set the date of US troop withdrawal when he negotiated with the Taliban.
Two of his campaign workers got into an altercation with military personal at Arlington trying to enforce the rules against filming/video for PR or advertising.
Now Trump is making up excuses wanting the story to vaporize.

Because a debate on ABC also gets on some internet sites, it captures both. A debate just in some internet sites may not make it to ABC in its entirety, probably playing second hand snippets

Re: Harris Vs. Trump 2024. The battle to save America. Lets do this.
Radio is fighting for relevance. So much so there is serious discussion about eliminating AM radios in vehicles. (I don't think it's a good idea because AM is great for emergency use like we see in major storms). I listen to downloaded playlists, podcasts and stream where possible. The only live radio I listen to is Dan Patrick and Colin Cowherd because both are nearly void of political talk.
Political talk gets much better ratings in the hinterlands but even in very conservative GR market all conservative political talk WOOD 1300 AM (20,000 watts and now simulcasts 106.9 (Muskegon). WOOD is #5 trailing country, adult contemporary and a Christian radio station. It was #1 then Rush Limbaugh died but even in the year prior right wing political talk was losing listeners.
However syndication makes any format cheaper to air because all that's needed to a competent board op to make sure the satellite feeds are up and running.

Not trapper but drudge report is usually one of my first stops to view a snapshot of what's going on right now. He is of course biased though, but it's a lean right situation so I get to see the news through a slightly different lens and without personal commentary from him. Sinc le he turned on trump, he has been pretty tolerable. Second is probably a tie between Google news and Reddit or other forums of specialized topics. I of course have to do a lot of filtering out of garbage as I'm less interested in opinions/analysis and more interested in what actually happened

Radio is getting smaller, sorta dying. But it will never die. It will end up being one host hosting shows on 30 different stations around the country as they will need to consolidate and have less staff than they used to. One alternative station broadcast to different regions. It's already happening. The days of local DJs is already numbered.

Radio has a special quality. It’s called FREE. Try that with Spotify or SiriusXM. I even listen to out of state stations (like Lions games) for free on the internet.

Right, I get it. It is dying slowly but it will never die outright. There's always SOME value in that area of the electromagnetic spectrum for its reach

My 2022 hybrid has all the bells and whistles. Even SiriusXm. But it doesn’t compare to local radio, especially when I’m traveling. I get recommendations on restaurants and local events that those pay site music platforms don’t provide. Spotify and SiriusXM are like McDonalds. Same shit wherever you are.

I'm glad Penn can get the attention here he desperately needs.
From a very basic clinical perspective:
from more of a diagnostic perspective:
Treatment can be group-specific, psychodynamic and supportive. Possibly cognitive behavioral therapy - we're doing some good work here, guys. Empathy is crucial, along with basic group discussion. We don't need to get into root causes, self-reflection here.
hang in there, Penn - we're here to support, not treat. we got you!
From a very basic clinical perspective:
A person with histrionic personality disorder seeks attention, talks dramatically with strong opinions, is easily influenced, has rapidly changing emotions, and thinks relationships are closer than they are.
from more of a diagnostic perspective:
Diagnosis criteria for histrionic personality disorder require meeting five (or more) of the following persistent behaviors:
Uncomfortable when not the center of attention.
Seductive or provocative behavior.
Shifting and shallow emotions.
Uses appearance to draw attention.
Impressionistic and vague speech
Dramatic or exaggerated emotions.
Suggestible (easily influenced by others).
Considers relationships more intimate than they are.

From a very basic clinical perspective:A person with histrionic personality disorder seeks attention, talks dramatically with strong opinions, is easily influenced, has rapidly changing emotions, and thinks relationships are closer than they are.
from more of a diagnostic perspective:Diagnosis criteria for histrionic personality disorder require meeting five (or more) of the following persistent behaviors:
Uncomfortable when not the center of attention.
Seductive or provocative behavior.
Shifting and shallow emotions.
Uses appearance to draw attention.
Impressionistic and vague speech
Dramatic or exaggerated emotions.
Suggestible (easily influenced by others).
Considers relationships more intimate than they are.
Treatment can be group-specific, psychodynamic and supportive. Possibly cognitive behavioral therapy - we're doing some good work here, guys. Empathy is crucial, along with basic group discussion. We don't need to get into root causes, self-reflection here.
hang in there, Penn - we're here to support, not treat. we got you!
You’re one to talk, Bob. You literally post the same thing every day. “The racist, bigoted, Christian sexual predator……..”. “Caution: Mainstream media link”….
Get help, buddy.

I like to say that there are two kinds of people. Folks that need therapy and go, folks that need therapy and don't go.PennSpartan wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote: you just met two, arguably three, of the criteria in that post.

I've been faithfully attending for a couple of decades now.
thanks for bringing that up. I'm a huge advocate for removing the stigma associated with mental health.
