Did you know that most cars in the road also have this thing called Bluetooth, from which their internet connected phones can connect through and play music, podcasts, etc. And if they don't have Bluetooth, they likely have CD players. Maybe even tape players in some.PennSpartan wrote:Travis of the Cosmos wrote:
Yeah man lots of people tuning into the radio to get their news
Every day. There are these old things called cars. You’re probably too young to want one. They have radios. Much safer than surfing the net when you’re driving, too.
Edit: Over 15k radio stations in the U.S. All just collecting dust according to Travis. LOL
Point being that having a radio doesn't mean you have to listen to it.
Either way all this absolutism from you and those you're arguing with is silly. No, radio isn't as popular as you think. In major markets, there is usually less than 1% of adults listening to any station at a given point in time. But no, radio is not dead either. It's still a viable medium to reach most demographics over 30 years old. They just aren't reached as easily or in as big of numbers as it used to be.

If you think television and broadcast media is going away anytime soon, I’d like to make a small wager with you. Say a million dollars? Why do you suppose Harris wants the debate on ABC instead of some internet site?
The debate is being hosted by ABC, but will be simulcast on all the major networks and cable news networks, just like the Jube 27 debate was.
Furthermore, and this is really going to blow your mind, it will also be live streamed on countless internet sites, including tik tok, twitter, YouTube, etc.

If I want to listen to the same music over and over I have an old fashioned stereo at home. I even have a turntable and some vintage vinyl. My point is I like variety. If I’m in Boston I want to hear that DJ, his accent, and his point of view. And yes I have Bluetooth and a variety of other options.

As you said, the debate is hosted by ABC. You don’t see Tik Tok, Twitter, or other platforms hosting these major events. They just pay to get the feed. The reality is MSM has the money and staffing to do it. The next time there is an occurrence like January 6, notice who arrives first and reports. It isn’t Facebook or YouTube.

As long as the young people being reached by that stuff turn out to vote.DWags wrote:Trapper Gus wrote:

Harris campaign is executing huge social media influencers campaign and social media ads...
Only old foke watch MSM and many of them get their news from Facebook.
Yep, I’ve been told by my kids, nieces and nephews about the x-plugs, the insta and tic tic influencers etc. I mean, I don’t get it, but they do.
This is t your dad’s election. Good for the kids. This is their country too
It seems like all that has helped create enthusiasm, which is needed for turnout. So hopefully that leads to young people voting in record numbers.
I feel like we always hear that young people are more engaged than ever, but it is still ends up being pretty small turnout. They need to realize the power that they have to really make a seismic change.

You were suggesting that they are having the debate on ABC because people watch. It's ON every network, and most major "internet sites". Because people watch everywhere.

I’m suggesting that without MSM we’re screwed. They provide most of the coverage, reporting and cameras. The internet sites just don’t have that stuff. They rely on MSM to supply them with the material. When a war breaks out on the other side of the world, it’s the MSM that gets there and provides the coverage. The internet sites just latch on for the ride.

The MSM own major "internet sites", too. AbC owns Hulu, NBC owns Peacock, CBS owns Paramount, FOX owns Tubi, CNN owns (well, has the same owner) as HBO Max.
I don't disagree with you that without the MSM we are screwed. I'm just saying that what is traditionally thought of as the MSM and the way you keep using it as an example (traditional broadcast/cable) is changing. It's shifting to "internet sites". What role the MSM has in that 10 or 20 years from now depends on how they adapt to the streaming space.

I said “tv will eventually go the way of radio.” I could have said “tv will eventually go the way of telegrams” or “tv will eventually go the way of horse drawn carriages” but I didn’t because it’ll still exist but be a shell of its former self, like radio.
I can’t believe we’re still talking about radio lol this is so stupid

I listen to a lot of sports on the radio. Football, basketball, and baseball. College and pro. They pretty much all originate from radio crew broadcasts, even if they are streamed over the internet or SiriusXM. It’s because radio stations are local they can do that. If radio died, I don’t know who would cover all of these game, and even high school games. Would take a major effort because radio stations have the infrastructure.

Infrastructure? For high school games? You need a phone (and maybe strong wifi). High school football and basketball games are live streamed through (mostly) subscription networks all across the country. Radio isn't doing that.

Nonsense. The high schools in my area broadcast a lot of games. On any given Friday night there are three or four local games on local radio stations. With local broadcasters. There’s nothing “subscription network” about it.NigelUno wrote:PennSpartan wrote:

Is the internet going to send someone to my little town to broadcast a high school football game? Or do you think that would be easier for the local AM radio station to do. Or in some cases, the high school radio station.

I could literally walk across the street in 30 minutes and broadcast a high school football practice from my phone to world if I wanted.
Let me guess. You think going to a physical casino is the only way to gamble?

It’s a high school football game, Penn. No. I don’t need a professional. The local radio station does the hockey games here cause it’s the big thing in town. And they are an absolute embarrassment. Any student with an average vocabulary could do the job. In fact my high school games were called by students in the press box.

Sure, take anyone off the street.
I’m going to go out on a limb and bet that the Detroit Tigers broadcast their games on the radio. In fact, I bet they have professional broadcasters to do the games, and I’ll wager there is a flagship station that provides the broadcasts. I’ll even wager there are affiliate stations all over Michigan that simulcast the broadcasts. I’ll bet those broadcasters travel to the away games as well. And I’ll finally bet that the internet doesn’t do a damn thing other than streaming those broadcasts for those like you who listen on the web.

If only high schools had communications/broadcast/AV departments...
And someone with a phone.
And they could hook it up to the internet.
Oh, well...I guess local radio will cover ALL the games...because...INFRASTRUCTURE!!!

Nonsense. The high schools in my area broadcast a lot of games. On any given Friday night there are three or four local games on local radio stations. With local broadcasters. There’s nothing “subscription network” about it.
Nonsense?
So, you haven't heard of the NFHS Network?
I bet you could watch more games, than are on the radio.
What "infrastructure" do you need (that you think radio stations have, and anyone streaming doesn't)?
Ok, you convinced me. I’ll just listen on the internet. I wonder what their announcers are like?
Edit: I just checked your NFHS Network. You have to pay.

What radio station and TV station are Dan Dickerson and Jason Benetton employed by?
They just picked them off the street, didn’t they? You said they don’t need professionals.

So you just take a phone, and “hook it up” to the internet, right? Will my iPhone work? I could be broadcasting tonight! Is there a plug or something I need to hook it up?

What difference does it make who they work for? They do a RADIO broadcast on a RADIO station. The better question is, why do the Tigers bother with this when all you need is a phone and an internet connection according to NigelUno? They could have anyone do the broadcast, even you. In fact they could have 50 different broadcasters for the same game. It’s so simple!

So everyone could broadcast a Tigers game, right? Why don’t we ever have that happen. Why aren’t there millions of people broadcasting worldwide every day?
