The drain commissioners are responsible for maintaining and improving that drainage system. Without that system being maintained much of the Detroit metro area & SE Michigan in general would be a swamp, and uninhabitable. Drain commissioners also have other water related responsibilities. Drain commissioner is actually pretty important and I wouldn't mind being one and am somewhat qualified to be one. However I do concede it sounds on the surface rather silly and inconsequential. I think it's ridiculous that it's become a partisan position in our society. Source: I learned about them at MSU and the Ingham county drain commissioner spoke to my class once explaining what his responsibilities were and I walked away surprised. I also took specifically a water policy graduate level class. Doesn't make me an expert but it's more than 99.999% of the population. So please trust me when I say that we need to keep anti environmental trump acolytes out of the position. That could be a literal disaster for some communities

Just a guess, but I think that like roads, drains have significant impacts for all the people who own the land that is drained and thus by making it an elected position it gives people the opportunity to put a person of their collective choice there.

I totally agree that it really shouldn't be a political party partisan position, but we haven't seemed to be very good at coming up with a better system of selecting candidates for it.

It’s a little over a month until Election Day, so I thought I’d comment on the state of the campaigns. Trump: exactly what we expected. Harris: a carbon copy of Hillary’s miserable operation. Hers is a vanilla, uninspiring, robotic, underperforming mess.

I can’t understand the strategy of being nice and pleasant while Trump beats her over the head with a lead pipe. This should be the easiest win in Democratic history. Start exposing all of his faults on a daily basis.

Here in PA Trump is dominating the advertising. Twice as many TV ads. And billboards and yard signs everywhere. All of his ads talk about her “weakness on crime” and “failed border policy”. He attacks her relentlessly.

Meanwhile, Harris tries to portray herself as caring and a unifier in her ads. Never a mention of Trump. Here’s a thought: start blasting the airwaves with the fact he’s a convicted felon, rapist, failure during the Covid Pandemic (which Joe and Kamala fixed), as well as his January 6 attack on Democracy and refusal to acknowledge the 2020 election results. Could we have some of that PLEASE?

One month to go. Take the damn gloves off and start fighting. If you don’t want to do it yourself Kamala, let Walz do it and turn him into a vicious attack dog. Leave no stone unturned. Expose every Trump lie, fault, and crime. Get busy.

It is highly unlikely that Trump has twice the TV ads as Harris. Perception does not equal reality.

as we all know, it's all about turnout. I'm okay with the mainstream media polls being close, as it'll (hopefully) keep decent people from becoming complacent.

when Americans vote in large numbers (and are allowed to vote, their votes are counted), decency wins, democracy prevails. That's why republicans/libertarians are so committed to election interference, voter intimidation, etc.

also, I heard that Special K has outraised the racist, bigoted, christian sexual predator, convicted rapist and convicted felon by quite a bit. She's likely concentrating a lot of that money very strategically with the experts running her campaign.

I don't blame you. Living here has been a whole lot different since 2019, but as long as you steer clear of Van Dyke & 23 Rd on Sunday afternoons you should be OK. That intersection becomes Crazy Town every week at that time.
