This’ll be on the brief side, as diaries go.  We live in a rural county in NE lower Michigan — Moved here in 2019 after spending our working lives in the metro Detroit area.  Our new county went something like 60-40 for Trump in 2020.  Sigh..

One of the first things we did was join and donate to the county Democratic Party, but we never got much more active than that, aside from displaying yard signs.  Last month, we went to a meeting and ended up volunteering to canvass for our local township supervisor candidate, a retired teacher (sound familiar?)

Here’s the thing that struck me.  None of those voters we talked to had any political signage in their yards, and every one of them supported Harris/Walz, along with our township supervisor candidate, of course.  Two even asked for signs.  Nice.

I was watching a Bullwark video in which Tim Miller was taking on Dan Crenshaw on the Piers Morgan program and there is a big economic argument that would shut down all the MAGA idiots claiming that the economy was good under Trump so he should be elected again:  it almost always takes 2-4 years for the economic policies of a new administration to start having an effect!

For all those people who liked the Trump economy, the real Trump economy didn’t kick in until 2019.  What they really like is the tail end of the Obama economy.  By about this time in 2019 there were slews of economic articles predicting that by early 2020 we would be in a recession.  COVID was a wild card that overrode everything that was going on in the economy so we will never know if there actually was going to be a recession in 2020 or not, but all the predictions were bad for 2020.

The Trump economy is what we were seeing in 2021 and 2022 (though with a heavy dose of fallout form the pandemic too).  It started turning around in 2023 and all the indicators are pretty healthy right now.  Though too many people seem to think it’s still bad because stuff costs more than it did 4 years ago.  When inflation gets under control prices don’t tend to go down much.  They just level off where they are.

If this analysis is correct then the inflation & price increases, which occurred in 2022, was due to Trump.

If you understand, which there is not chance that you, TM, do, what the US was like (when I was a kid in 1890), and how it took 30 years from 1930 to 1960, to be rebuilt as a middle class country, then you will understand that Reagan's plan to move it back to what it was in 1890 also took 30 years.

What can be said is that Trump didn't do all that much, before covid.  A tax cut for the wealthy and corporations was about it, then during covid he didn't stand in the way of Congress doing two bills, well really he did delay the second one by 6 months.

So the tax cut allowed corporations to juice their stock prices with stock buy backs but did  nothing that Trump promised it would do.

The first covid relief act kept the money flowing into the workers pockets & allowed corporations to have another field day on the government's tit's.

The second covid bill provided more money to workers, though not as much, created the final Trump budget for the government & gave more candy to the wealthy.

Biden with the Democratic Congress past 4 more major bills:

1 - Another 1.9 trillion covid relief act
2 - The Bipartisan Infrastuctue Act
3 - The Chips Act
4 - The Inflation Reduction Act

So 6 major funding bills, two from the Democratic Congress not totally blocked by Trump, and 4 from a Democratic Congress & Biden, all before 2023.

After 2023 of course the Republican House has tried to stop anything from happening but have been out maneuvered  by Biden and the Democrats about three times, keeping the lights on and the three acts already passed moving forward.

The three covid relief Acts kept the pipes from freezing, the last three from Biden juiced the economy by starting thousands of capital infrastructure construction jobs.

The first two were not so much Trump as the Congress but he gets partial credit. The current economy is of course built on hundreds of years of the past economy, but for what Trump & Biden did todays economy is about 25% Trump & 75% Biden.

He doesn't want to lead America.  He wants to lead Republicans.  Detroit is a Democratic run city, so they are nothing.

What I think he's too clueless to understand is that people from areas around Detroit take pride in Detroit.  It isn't just people in the city limits that he offended.  

It's part what makes me believe that he's not even interested in trying to win the election.  He's just interested in sowing chaos with his christian republican/libertarian never intending to certify the election.
