It sure would. It sure would ...but that would require the party that has sceded control of themselves to foreign influence to actually stand up for what is best this nation and it is far too late for that. We are cooked by these idiots. Every single election will be a struggle for dems

My two cents.
Fox News and right wing radio, which started with Fox News personalities, was started as a propaganda voice for the Republican Party, but it's first message which it repeated over and over was, we are the only place telling the truth.
After some number of years that sank in, as the Fox News owners and managers knew it would, and they began to control their viewers by what they chose to report, or chose not to report. This effect snowballed over the years until they had created an super loyal audience. The echo chamber of Fox News was reinforced by talk radio. They had created an audience with loyalty that was the envy of every other commercial News outlet.
Now they just report on the stories that support their right wing agenda.
Of course they still keep repeating that everyone else is not reporting all of the news, laughable because they are the ones that avoid reporting on things they don't want people to know.
Their control of the right wing audience has caused many other MSM to report on only the same stories in attempts to regain the Fox News viewers, a hopeless task when Fox News main message is "watch only us, we tell the truth". However this chasing after Fox viewers has caused the amplifier effect and built credibility for Fox.
Fox News created the cult. Trump just came along and took it over.

I also remember having to take the "scenic route" home from elementary school 'cause I mouthed off at the wrong hillbilly and, word on the street, was that they were "waiting for me outside".
So I'd hit the back door and find my way home from there. This was 45+ years ago.
Our daughter just texted us, like, yesterday and referred to giving someone she was having an issue with at work a "Dad smirk".
Point being, I've always been a little mouthy. But I'd rather know how someone feels/thinks and work with it from there vs smiling at people and knowing that they support racism, bigotry, hate and misogyny behind my back.
Doesn't mean I can't get along with them. It just means that I know who they are.

His praising of Venezuela is interesting because he won a lot votes 4 years ago from Venezuelans down here for his "tough talk" against Venezuela and shouting "socialism blahhhhhhh" all the time. So this is quite a change the way Trump has been praising them for their low crime (low because of a brutal police state and little in the way of rights for the accused). Basically everything the Venezuelans hate about Maduro.Robert J Sakimano wrote:imagine hating America so much that you're propping up Venezuela as beacon of virtue.aualum06 wrote:https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/trump-debate-venezuelan-gangs-colorado-rcna170255

a) it's hard to believe how far republicans/libertarians have fallen.
b) good for this reporter. It would be nice if all areas of the mainstream media were this committed to the truth.
The Cubans have always been Republican, but the Venezuelans were a newer segment that he had tapped in to. I don't know if this will lose him those fans, though. Once people bite into the Trump apple, they seem afraid to ever admit they were wrong.

My wife and I met My youngest and her boyfriend last night at a place called Pegasus in St. Clair Shores for dinner. Nice place indoor outdoor seating beautiful night to eat outside. The youngins Met us after they had stopped in a little beer house half a block up the road.
My daughter‘s boyfriend maybe had a couple there And when he sat down, at our table He pulls out his phone and shows my wife and I a video of Donald Trump saying they eat cats they eat dogs they eat pets set to a wrap song. I freely admit, it was funny as hell, And I laughed and my wife giggled, but maybe his phone was a little too loud. Anyway, he put his phone away and we just had a normal dinner
But, we were in Macomb County. About halfway through the dinner, a guy and his wife were sitting at a table next to us paid their bill and left, but the guy walked over to our table and said, “Trump won and you all know it” as he left.
On my children, all we did was listen to the rap song for 20 seconds and laughed, and then we didn’t even speak about the debate And honestly, I don’t know if the guy was talking about the 2020 election or the debate as far as winning. But I think, we all just were silent and looked at him, And what we realized was, we probably ruined that guys last half of his meal when my daughter’s boyfriend played that song On his phone. My wife, of course, admonished us, and herself, and said we probably shouldn’t speak about politics when we’re out to dinner. But like I say, I swear the whole thing lasted less than 30 seconds about politics. Oh well, lesson learned

Your wife isn't wrong to be worried. The first two houses to sprout Harris signs in our area got egged and their cars vandalized. There's no way I'd openly advertise voting preferences in public these days. Too many zealot psychos.

If you aren't an insane trump zealot you mean... those fuckers have no problem shoving it down your throat.
BTW, this exact issue will fortify them in their "stolen election" belief... I don't think they realize that everyone WITHOUT a trump sign thinks he's a petulant evil asshole. (at least that is what I'm telling myself as I drive around my rural Michigan county, so I can sleep at night.)

I'd lay the blame on his disconnect with reality, gullibility, the bubble of confirmation bias he probably lives in and, likely, some degree of mental health issues.
while I find I find it tough, 8 years later, to feel bad for people like that, I do feel bad for people in their life who have witnessed their decline into madness. It would be tough to watch.
I read something someone said when Tim Walz was named Harris's VP. The person adored him - she loved his sense of humor, his commitment to his family, his "midwest white Dad" persona and she said something that stuck with me.
She said "he reminds me of my Dad before Fox News got hold of him".
that was one of the saddest things I'd read or heard in a long time.
So... point being - I know and get that you felt bad. But that guy ruined his own dinner and, likely, a lot of relationships in his life prior to y'all getting a chuckle out of the video.

Fox News got a hold of my Dad around 2015. He was in his mid 80's, had just lost my mom and started watching their prime time line up ( Tucker, Hannity and Ingram).

No they aren't. Police can hardly be bothered to pull up traffic cam footage even when a minor hit and run accident may have captured it.

my Dad was outwardly apolitical, but he always voted. I remember being a little kid and going with him, standing in the booth with him, pulling the curtain shut. That was kinda neat for a little kid. He was fairly conservative, but in the way of 1960's/1970's rural Appalachia way. Not in a modern "let's celebrate school shootings" republican/libertarian sort of way.
Mom was a bit more interesting. I do remember her watching Fox News but this was early on before they turned into the bastion of "scary brown people are eating your pets" insanity. She died in 2012, so they hadn't quite gotten into the extreme stuff yet.
I can tell you that she also proudly voted for Barack Obama in 2008, so she was pretty cool like that. I flew down once.. maybe about 2000 or so.. and took her to see Springsteen.
After Mom died, Dad got more angry, was pretty lonely. His wife of 40+ years was gone, I had a brother that died in 1990, me and my family lived 700 miles away. He adored our daughter and that was about it.
He had grown tired of politics, etc - in 2016, our daughter called (she was 16, couldn't vote but that didn't stop her from canvassing for votes) and asked him who he was gonna vote for and he told her he had washed his hands of the whole process. Our daughter, being a vocal advocate for social change, a paragon of progressiveness and proud East Lansing Public School kid asked him "who do you think Nana (my mom, his wife) would've voted for"?
and he goes "well, there's no way she'd vote for a rapist scumbag - - and I'm sure she would've loved to have lived to see the first female president" - and our daughter said "you should go vote for Nana, then".
And he did. Voted for Hillary.

Saline is still a small town. They have two police cars, one of which they park at various places with a dummy dressed as a police person in it to scare speeders.
Yes, they are.

“One of those two people is going to be president of the United States. It was clear on that stage, there is only one that’s qualified to be president of the United States. Kamala Harris took that stage with poise, with dignity, with an understanding that she works for you, that it’s about what’s best for the people. And on the other side of the aisle, you saw an angry man yelling at people to get off his yard,” Walz said.

Yes DWags, you and your family were being terrorized by another patron who wanted you to know who he voted for and more importantly that he was paying attention to what others around him were saying and doing. No different than property owners who put up Harris/Walz signs get vandalized.
Based on all the MI County Sheriffs doing "independently financed" political ads slamming Slotkin, the kind of intimidation and domestic terrorism you experienced is being encouraged because a lot of county law enforcement agree with the shithead who thought he had the right to interrupt your family's meal.

The immigrants eating cats & dogs and the crazy cat ladies' memes are pulling coverage away from the 2025 Project and other goals of the Republicans.
I am beginning to understand why Trump believes he won the debate, the MSM is talking more about Trump than Harris.

You may be giving Trump too much credit. He doesn’t seem to be smart enough to conceive of such a plan or disciplined enough to execute it. I think he merely repeats his followers’ attacks on his enemies, no matter how ridiculous they are.
If his natural tendencies work to limit media attention of Harris, it’s just happenstance and not necessarily good for him. He’s always done the same shit, and he came in second place in the popular vote in both of his campaigns. I agree that most media outlets are giving his insanity too much attention, but I think Trump is just being himself and the media are just being themselves.

Disagree, he is essentially in his life always an actor. He knows what he is doing with the media. To deny it gives him power. Call out the purposeful attention whoring wherever possible and that will blunt his impact to the effect of reducing media clicks, impression etc that perpetuate this attention to him.

Trump might get good ratings. But, I don't think he's picking up any votes with cat/dog eating stories.

In that it denies air time to Kamala, yes.
it's a gamble though as it could put off undecided voters. I would bet money that it helps him more than it hurts him but it would be impossible to tell one way or the other for sure. He tried desperately for a few weeks to recapture the media attention by doing crazier and crazier things. Clearly just getting attention even if it is negative is a large part of his strategy and therefore if this stupid nonsense story is capturing attention, then his strategy is working. Weather it actually helps him win though is unknown. If undecides are truly undecided and he floods the zone with nonsense, that gives less and less opportunity to harris to capture them and makes it more and more likely they stick with what is probably their "both sides are trash" perspective, perhaps suppressing the vote in that group.

polls standing pat and possibly denying harris picking up new voters. Her message is getting washed out. Simply an extension of the "flood the field with shit" philosophy. admittedly taken to the extreme. He's not losing almost any voters over this garbage. They are his in mind and spirit.
This is essentially already a war, a civil war. One that is mostly non-violent so far but a war none the less. It can be looked at as an information war but it has certainly gotten serious enough, vicious enough, to be termed a war. It would not take much to spark into further escalation.
Simply look up what the google AI tells you about what an information war is. Let me do that for you:
https://www.google.com/search?q=define+information+war&rlz=1C1CHBD_enUS829US829&oq=define+information+war&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQABiABDIKCAIQABgPGBYYHjIICAMQABgWGB4yCAgEEAAYFhgeMggIBRAAGBYYHjINCAYQABiGAxiABBiKBTINCAcQABiGAxiABBiKBTINCAgQABiGAxiABBiKBTIKCAkQABiABBiiBNIBCDI1NjZqMGo3qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Information warfare is a type of warfare that involves the manipulation of information to gain an advantage over an opponent. It can include a variety of actions, such as:
- Collection: Gathering tactical information about an opponent
Propaganda: Spreading disinformation to demoralize or manipulate an enemy or the public
Undermining: Damaging the quality of an opponent's information
Denial: Preventing an opponent from collecting information
Protection: Safeguarding one's own information and information systems
Exploitation: Enhancing one's own decision-making cycle while disrupting an opponent's
Information warfare can involve both offensive and defensive actions, and it can extend beyond military targets to include civilians and industries.
this is a civil information war.
