Tropical storm Helene
Storms/hurricanes usually get tracked over a week or more. Just a matter of days for this one.
Hurricane tracker: Tropical Storm Helene intensifies, Florida declares state of emergency and starts evacuations

Water temp is 88 degrees at Longboat Key. Lots of stored energy for a hurricane

Yay, my insurance rates are going up another 25% and the panhandle is going to get hit by another major hurricane.

It's most likely going to rain out the next 2 Braves/Mets games.
Might have to play a Double Header on Monday.

It’s only a matter of time before most insurence companies bug out of Florida.

I hope I am. This year it went up about 20%. This is after putting in impact windows and replacing the roof over the last 5 or 6 years.DWags wrote:InTenSity wrote:Yay, my insurance rates are going up another 25% and the panhandle is going to get hit by another major hurricane.

I'd have to go back and look but I think it's gone from $4600, to $5800, to $6900 over the last 3 years. So the mortgage has gone from $2300 to $2600 or so. That is with a 5% hurricane deduction, or $24k deduction if it's hurricane damage. Flood insurance is only $550, but 2 years about that was $480.

Well...the Braves have to play KC on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (and the Mets are in Milwaukee).
Pretty far inland to have a Tropical Storm Warning. Peak winds tomorrow 45-55 mph with gusts to 75. That's going to knock down some big trees.

yeah, Richland Creek that runs behind Frog Level Brewing is out of its banks, last I heard. It's already a low lying area with run-off from downtown Waynesville, Sulphur Springs Road, etc. Gonna be a long day in Frog Level.NigelUno wrote:Going to be record flooding in parts of North Carolina.

Saw some video from Hazelwood Avenue - can literally see the house I grew up in. Not looking good for the businesses down the street and toward Haywood Smokehouse.

Tallahassee got very fortunate with a little jog to the right just before landfall, so were even on the weaker side of the storm in addition to being 50 miles or so from the center.
Fortunately for the big picture it was again the sparsely populated areas that got hit the worst. But it's incredibly awful for those small towns. 3 storms in 2 years, and this was the worst of them. Cedar Key is one of my favorite small towns.

Trying to find out what happened to the condo that we rent out every April in pas-a-grille one mile south of St Pete. I can’t get on any of the cameras that are on the streets Have you guys heard of any kind of damage that those towns faced?

Evacuating everyone around the Lake Lure Dam saying it is at risk of imminent failure. Can't imagine the area if that lets loose.

Emergency Services in Haywood County are saying that the Lake Junaluska dam is holding up but, I suspect, you never really know. A lot of people down from that heading toward Crabtree - if it were to go, it would get even uglier.

Supposedly some buildings at the bottom of Lake Lure that got submerged when the dam was built. The place we go had lots of water, Longboat Key. They're up on stilts, but not that high up. I saw one pic with water in between the buildings.
SIL's place in Cortez got flooded. She just spent a boatload on renovations earlier this year.

I like the sherif that was saying about the non evacuees “if you don’t evacuate please write your name social Security number and your birthday on your arm and sharpie so we can identify you”.
I don’t think you can be more blunt.

He's about as dumb as the people that thought they'd find flight 340 in the Indian Ocean in a couple of days. They have no clue of the actual vastness of those areas. Same as some dumb old lady that was complaining about the smoke from Canada wildfires, why don't they just clean up the forests so that the fires don't happen. I swear none of them have ever been past the city limits of where they live.

Getting some reports. Pass-a-grille didn’t do great. I’m told everything is fixable.
Our condo is on the first floor about 70 yards from the golf. Two years ago, they just put in all new floors and appliances on the first floor level that I’m sure insurance covered. I’m hearing that the first floors didn’t do very well again
Honestly, I can’t believe what the insurance must be for you guys down there. I’m guessing that my portion that I rent out in April is going to be more expensive this year.
