You were making what now?duffy munn wrote:Travis of the Cosmos wrote:
Was that a lot of money in 1984 or no? Couldn’t you buy a house for ten pence and a ball of yarn?
I was making $200 a shift for Tigers home games ( We shuttled to the Corner, about 1.5 miles). So John being a cheap ass didn't hurt but it was still a dick move for a guy that was making 500k in 1984. So again, fuck him.
That’s $600 a day in today’s dollars. In today’s dollars that’s $49,000 for 82 games or adjusted for a 250 business day work year a $150,000 a year. You didn’t need a cash tip you needed a fuckin stock tip and an accountant

Which brings us back to generational arguments that usually start with “why can’t they just work as hard as I did as a ‘insert in 2024 youre getting a fraction of what it used to make’ job here”
Not that you say that stuff but like I couldn’t not point that out

To answer your question Travis, the main parking lot had 90 spaces which we turned 3 times a night from the dinner rush. On game night they rented another 100 spaces front the consumers energy behind Carl's. We had 5 guys running ( literally) the lots. I worked about 60 games. So yeah, I made close to 10k that summer. Paid
my tuition and then some in 84/85. I spent every nickle as my first son was born in November of 84.

I don't know, dude.duffy munn wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:
Why would TM lie about this Bob?
Probably because he doesn't want to admit that he's voting for a convicted rapist, a 34 time convicted felon who has no respect for democracy, America and the Constitution?
I'm not real smart, but it seems like the kind of thing someone would lie about.

One more cool story bro about the summer/ Carls of 84 story. Dunleavy's, the bar across the street on grand river, didn't exactly adhere is the 2am closing time. It was a "cop bar" and in those days most bars downtown did a little something for the local police to ensure proper enforcement.
The night the Tigers won the world series, we didn't get done working until almost 3 am. So of course we hit Dunleavys for "last call". Somewhere around 5am I left and started to drive home. As I was getting on the Lodge North I stopped at a red light and things got crazy. Suddenly, I was boxed in by 2 cars and a dude jumped out the front car and flashed a gun. It was going to be a car jacking. ( It was cool back then).
As the guy with the gun walked over to the car, I rolled down the window a few inches and begged him not to take my car. Said I would give him money instead. I had about 200 singles and one 20 dollar bill. I wrapped the 20 around the singles and handed it to him. He grabbed the cash and they bolted thinking that had just hit the jackpot. I worked in downtown detroit for about 6 years after that and never stopped at a red light after midnight.
Also, fuck Tommy John.
