If this continues, will be the greatest story in all baseball history.
What are the odds now?

Baseball Gods. That's all I've got. Really. They finally felt bad for Tiger fans after 40 years.

I'm assuming the all powerful Heat Meiser had something to do with it.

Will never forget buying a newspaper every morning during the 35-5 run. Yeah, I read the sports section on the shitter at work. Not myself, but think things are far worse now with smartphones.Floyd Robertson wrote:Baseball Gods. That's all I've got. Really. They finally felt bad for Tiger fans after 40 years.

Honestly, there was nothing like going out to the driveway, grabbing that newspaper, scratching my nuts, looking up at the sky, figuring out what kind of day it was going to be, going back inside, sitting on the crapper and reading the sports page. I really miss that

Just saw something that said the Tigers are the 4th team in history to have a losing record in August to make the playoffs and all three of the previous teams went on to win the World Series.

Yeah, I enjoyed a good paper. It was harder to doom spiral back then too. (Or maybe it was the times)

What are the odds now?
I mean KC did lose 106 games last year…

But here’s why I think that’s a real disingenuous stat. Once you hit a point in your season where you just know it’s impossible to make the playoffs you start making roster moves and planning for next year.. It might lead into a 90 lost team losing 106 games, Or a 90 lost team losing only 88. You might keep all of your good players down and AAA or AA, Or, you might bring them up to get a taste of the major leagues
The fact remain s when the tigers could’ve said, screw it let’s play for next year,, They dug deep and produced this miracle season.
This is like sitting on a beach in Miami in March when it’s 35° in Michigan and it’s 80° where you are. It’s like ordering the left side of a menu, and your rich friend sits down and pays for the whole bill. It’s like ordering three tacos from Taco Bell when you are drunk and hungry and getting home and finding they put 12 in your bag.
Jesus, I was in my car yesterday on a beautiful day with a blue sky in October, and I’ll be damned if I wasn’t listening to the tigers on the radio. Good Lord, that was great

Yep. I loved reading the sports pages back then. Especially Sundays when both the News and Free Freep put out huge additions.
The coverage of the Tigers ( and the rest of Detroit sports) was outstanding. Some pretty gifted writers. Mike Downey, Shelby Struther, Lynn Henning, Hal Schram, aka the swami, for high school sports. Iffy the Dopester, Joe LaPointe, Jack Saylor for golf.
And yes, even Joe Falls and Jerry Green. Detroit was a great sports journalism town
