I've always found it funny when the TWC or other national media are speaking to the residents going through these storms. Bro, no one in the areas that these storms are headed for, and certainly not once it's hitting, are watching you. Not because they don't have power/cable/internet, but because they're watching their local stations. In a time like this, you want the local knowledge and locally relevant information that Jim Cantore can't provide.kingstonlake wrote:Do we need this dipshit on TWC telling everyone how to survive and be safe in a hurricane while doing exactly the opposite of what you should to survive and be safe during a hurricane?
But the national media does serve to make my friends and family elsewhere in the country think that everyone in the entire state is going to die even when its hitting nowhere near me. So there's that.
FWIW, I'm watching the Weather Channel because we aren't getting much of anything here to pay attention to.

After the rain/tornados/125+ mph winds tonight rolling across FL, there are going to be at least 1M people who won’t be able to find and afford homeowners/renter insurance after these two once in a century storms 2 weeks apart.

I remember that very well, too. The Pistons were playing in the Silverdome, of course, but when the roof collapsed I actually went to a playoff game (against the Knicks or Nets?) held at Joe Louis.

These FEMA stories are out of control with misleading info. The $20B budget that took effect on Oct. 1 was a temporary stop gap while congress is on vacation (or whatever they do for months on end). The official budget will be approved when they get back from jerking off and likely be $33B+ (based on a source a few weeks ago).
Some of these articles are just intentionally misleading. Some are just poor journalism. This one seems like the later.

He knows a bit, TBF. It was covering hurricanes, out in the elements like he was last night, that launched him to the national prominence. He was nicknamed The Storm Stud on the interwebs, because the ladies swooned (before he was well known enough for people to know he was gay, NTTAWWT).Nordic wrote:kingstonlake wrote:Good

In general, I don't believe media companies force anyone to cover these things like that. They do it for the cred, and to further their careers. Same with war zones. I could be wrong, but I always thought with younger reporters it's maybe an expectation to pay your dues and it might hurt you if you don't. But I'm not sure they're forced. And definitely not when it comes to the prime time anchors.

IIRC, Cooper earned his street cred reporting on the first Iraq War. He went there on his own, not long out of college, I think, and filed reports for any news org wanting a personalized report.
The whole hurricane coverage is ridiculous. It became a badge of courage among reporters and anchors after networks got their butts kicked in coverage by Hurricane Dan Rather.
I’ve said for a long time it’s only a matter of time before one of the reporters gets killed from flying debris. Cooper was lucky it wasn’t a piece of metal that clocked him.
You want video? Fine. Stick cams out there. But reporters add nothing being in the field during the storm itself and as has already been said, we all think they’re morans for doing what they’re telling others not to do.
The same can be said here in the north during massive snowstorms.

I'm pretty sure he could tell CNN he is not standing outside in the middle of hurricane. Maybe I was little hyperbolic, but I think his days of having to live action report to cut his teeth are behind him. It was his choice.

tWife and I loved it and he was an excellent host. Sadly it only lasted on season :(. I remember seeing him move to reporter on CNN in the early days and saying, "hey that's the dude from the Mole!". I don't recall him being a weather guy/storm chaser. But (to his credit) he has taken on a lot of jobs. I don't recall "The Storm Stud" moniker. I'll take your word for it . But if I'm looking for weather/hurricane news, I'm not looking to Anderson Cooper.
For the last however many years, I've only seen him as CNN talking head and 60 Minutes reporter. The later I respect, the former I do not (just like the shitbirds on FoxNews).
And again, if you watch TWC's anchors closely, they in a semi-protected environment with chaos shots behind them. He seemed to be blindly out in the chaos without proper gear.
