Okay boomer
college is for casual hook-ups, and has been since 2000's, when my kids went to college
one met its spouse through on line dating, the other through their friends

What's the definition of a "couple" in the context of this graph?

Give it time. I'm sure some right wing nut job will complain about the lack of church meetings here soon enough.

It's where Travis & I have discussed it, but you can move it, I don't mind.

That's the one that got me. Doesn't seem right to me. I met my wife in college but that was in the mid 2000s and one of my close friends did too around the same time. I get that it's not the biggest but you would think it would be higher by shear chance due to bringing together so many at a time when you can feasibly marry someone then or a little thereafter. Maybe something with the definition. Technically mine could be classified at college or via friends. Maybe they mean college classrooms?

Re: I am Wrong & Concede to Travis et al About the Internet
People don’t get married at 24 anymore. Theyre all 30+ for the most part, especially if they went to college in the first place. They meet plenty of people in college, they don’t marry them.
Also let’s go ahead and not draw too much out of an attractive looking image that claims to know how people met their spouses in 1930, 1931, 1932, etc speaking of internet literacy

Re: I am Wrong & Concede to Travis et al About the Internet
The wife and I had Many of the same friends in college. We never met until after college. We would laugh at how many friends we had in common, and we figured out we were at the same parties at the same time more than once.
She also knew some of my friends from Manistee, which was just bizarre, and her father at one point was going to buy a funeral home in Manistee Michigan and in iron River Michigan for his chain of funeral homes. The two places my family came from
The year before we got married, we were sitting on a beach in Manistee, and a guy named Pete came up to us that we used to call Buddha in high school. He looked at us and said how do you know each other.? My wife knew him from Texas when she would go down there in lobby For the natural gas industry. We all just started laughing
To top it off a girl I graduated with that lived three houses away in Manistee, married a boy from Southlake high school where my wife graduated from, that boys sister stood up in our wedding.
Really weird stuff like we were meant to meet each other

Is your wife actually your sister?
To make matters weirder, a bunch of my family went to South lake high school. When I was in Santa Monica California I met an actor that was from there that knew a bunch of my family members back in the day. I think he dated my mom's cousin
So you might be my uncle or parents cousins

Watch the year as the graph progresses, the online group takes off in the middle of the 2000's and starts to dominate after 2010 to 2015.
Many of us on here "know" each other through the internet, BTW
Re: I am Wrong & Concede to Travis et al About the Internet
Welp, my 2 kids in college aren't bringing any new girls home.
In fact they both make it sound like their social lives in college aren't all that...
Random party hopping isn't a thing anymore maybe?

It’s clearly not accurate. I added the numbers for 2024 and they equal 100% exactly - but orgy, seance and cockfight aren’t included.

I understand that, I just find it really hard to believe that when you bring so many sexually active young adults together that you only get 0.75% coupling. Just doesn't add up. Again I guess I don't know how mine would be classified. Met my wife "at college" but it was in the dorms, and she was a friend of a friend. I was playing Halo with the dorm server, with a head set on, she walked in with a low cut top on, we all drank and the rest is history.

I'm thinking, for us college educated, that we have to step back and remember that a majority of the population does not go to college.

I thought of that too, but 37.7% of USA holds a bachelor degree or higher. Out of 333.3 million people in this country that is 125.654 million people. That's about 2% of those in college find their lover with whom they will repeatedly lie to equal the approximate 0.75% overall. Again, seems low considering it takes just 1 couple per 100 people to reach that number.

I guess the question would be how many college students meet their SO online, even at the same school, verses in person first.

Do kids not go out to the bars anymore? Go to parties? Do they not join clubs or chat up attractive class mates???

Looking at this article it appears that "the kids" have all become Libertarians.

According to 1930 census people were moving from the cities to the suburbs, church might not have been the number one social gathering place?
