I’ll move this to the general MSU thread in a bit
We all know people that were in fraternities at MSU a lot of them do Good things. But in the year 2024(I think this happened in 2021) With all the stories about hazing gone bad, Some fraternities still managed to elect leadership that allows this kind of stuff to happen.

I was never greek... Aren't their adults in the room? Somewhere in the hierarchy? The first person over 25 in charge of that shit is the person who should be immediately fired, if not found liable. I think everyone is passed the "wink wink" attitude on physical hazing, right?

Hazing has been out of control for decades, at least at the extremes, and yes, the adult members need to step up and get things under control...

I will never understand why anyone would join a group that puts them through shit like this to gain membership

Sue more frats out of existence including forcing them to sell their property when stuff like this happens. Until then the national organizations will treat fatal incidents as a cost of maintaining the organization.

No, there are no real "adults" in the room. You rely on the upperclassmen to maintain control and set expectations. There is an elected "executive board" generally consisting of Prez, VP, Treasurer, Secretary, Sergeant at Arms, Historian, Pledge Master, etc. There might be an alumni board/advisor dropping in occasionally. The national organization has little direct oversight other than providing written guidelines, and of course collecting their share of the dues. The university only gets involved after the fact when there are violations. Same with the local Pan-Hellenic counsel.
These kids are getting their first taste of power over others. Some don't handle it well. Hazing of freshmen on college sports teams has been an issue as well. Although in that case there are at least adult coaches around. Not so in a fraternity. And BTW...sororities are pretty good at hazing too. You just don't hear much about it because it's more mental than physical. My own personal experience was not so extreme, but I heard plenty of stories back in the day.

Why can’t they just play a little grab ass or suck the pee pee. That’s why they’re there in the first place.

Now that you posted the video what is the point of posting the lyrics 1-2 words at a time? MSU is 6-0 against UM when MSU fans take turns posting the lyrics to Ice Ice Baby the day before the game.

I’m with a couple of you guys, I don’t get the mindset of these board of directors thinking they can get away with this. How many stories does it take for them to open up their eyes?. I will bet once a week my wife and I would point out stories to our daughters at the dinner table. Once we had given them cell phones about people getting in trouble for something or saying something or texting something to friends. I still worry that they’re going to do something stupid.
Does anybody want to bet me $1000 that, in the next five years, somewhere in America, either a sports team or a fraternity will be in trouble for hazing? $1000 bet
WTF Is wrong with people?

That's like betting there will be a car accident somewhere in the next 5 years. Or a school shooting. C'mon. Kids do dumb shit. You can try to mitigate that, but you can't eliminate it. Do you want to outlaw fraternities & sororities? How do you propose to do that? They're private organizations that exist outside campus boundaries. You can certainly make it harder for them to exist, and that has been done.

I think you’re mistaking what I mean here. I also included sports teams. And I referenced both my daughters separate from sports teams or sororities. At what point does your brain tell you this is really dumb to do?? What is the trigger that makes your brain finally say let’s not do this?
I guess I’m asking rhetorically, how many times does it happen before you say you know what, I’ve heard this story before and it’s really not a good idea.?
And while I understand your example, At the end of the word car accident it is the word accident. Hazzing is No accident it’s done on purpose and with malice, A better example would be road rage.

And for every instance of extreme hazing there are hundreds of instances of not extreme hazing. You were at the Miami game. All those guys are my fraternity brothers. My best friends for life. 30+ years later. We met again in Seattle for the Washington game. Some of us met again for BC. We've been to two Rose Bowls together. We've been groomsmen for each other. I would counsel my children that if you want to go Greek, don't give in to peer pressure. There are limits. That's it. My friend's son went to Arizona and joined a fraternity. They tried to do some extreme shit to him. He quit. Done.
