Back when men were men, women were women & all the children were seen but not heard, your vote, men, was not secret.

You went down to the polling place, usually the nearest saloon, publicly stated your vote, and received your shot of whiskey from the precinct captain.

Now we have adopted the Australian method of voting and no more whiskey, just a tiny sticker that cheers you on for voting.

And we have a second lawman in Ohio making a fool of himself.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio sheriff’s patrol commander who declared on Facebook that he would not help Democrats and would require proof of who a person voted for before providing them aid has apologized, blaming prescribed sleep aids for causing his “out of character” actions.

The U.S. Department of Justice’s election monitoring operation is on site in Portage County, in the northeastern part of Ohio, to ensure the county complies with federal voting rights laws during early voting and on Election Day.

That’s after Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, a Republican, was accused last month of intimidating voters. Zuchowski, who is running for reelection, posted on social media that people with Kamala Harris yard signs should have their addresses written down so that immigrants can be sent to live with them if the Democrat wins the presidency.

back from voting at my precinct in East Lansing.. from home and back, about an hour (I walked). I was 13th in line when I got there right around 7:00. Definitely more of a line on my way out.

oh, and mandatory listening today.. it's kind of evolved into the unofficial anthem of the Democrat Party. It was always Obama's walk up music and they played it when he left the stage at the Democrat National Convention.

The 18- to 29-year-old women voters are going to turn out and they are going to vote for Harris & the Democratic candidates.

My daughter is doing the morning shift outside a polling place today on behalf of the UMiami Dems group, handing out little Democrat Voting Guides.

My god, the cranky old people that she's already encountered. One old couple told them that they should be scared of sex changes. lol, wut? I told her she should have told them that she's had 3 sex changes already, because each school she went to from K through 12th grade forced one on her.

Another said Kamala is the most murderous person in the world. Others saying that they should be ashamed of themselves, etc.

I want her to tell someone that she hopes God forgives them for hating His children.

But in reality, she's just throwing kindness back at them, thanking them for voting and wishing them a great day. She's a better person than I am.

Well ... and all the noobobs on here are going to pounce on this ... I looked at the Democratics candidates and there were no red flags, one a former Michigan House member and one a long-time community organizer, so I voted for them as they both looked like people who were not kous agents.

I knew John Kivela and through him I got to know Ed McBroom. McBroom is an honest to god really great human being, regardless of his politics. I told him that I can't vote for him as long as the Republicans keep nominating Trump and as long as he endorses Jack Bergman. And now he is endorsing Karl Bohnak and I'm just done with Ed now too.

My problem with Republicans is more about their policies than their morals, though their morals & probity leave much to be desired. They have gone off in crazy land regarding how the economy needs to be organized ever since Reagan.  Until they start coming up with a rational economic platform which greatly reduces wealth inequality, which is the base for a functioning democracy, they are unworkable for me.

Same. As I've said on here before, I'm an anti-Trumpist. Unless there is something publicly available showing that a Republican is anti-Trump, then I have to assume that they supported him, whether overtly or not, and vote against them. I might give some leniency on supporting him prior to the 2020 election. But anyone that still supported him after January 6 will never get a vote from me.

But even if Trumpism is soundly defeated and falls to the ash heap of history, many that supported him will claim they didn't. That will be the difficult part for me in 5, 10, 20 years, when people who aren't in the public eye now are running for office, and we won't know whether they really were anti-Trump or not.

Unfortunately this statement doesn't mean very much. Sure it might be factually accurate but we've never had "early voting" pushes like we've had this year or since covid. It's absolutely skewing things early. I mean more than half of the number of people that voted in 2020 had voted early either in person, by mail, or absentee. And that election had monster turnout. So it's impossible to tell what's going on. Anecdotally, my precinct had like 1 person in line ahead of me and i went at 10 am. I was able to get right in and vote essentially.
