I assume OSU doesn't get a bye because they aren't a conference winner (if it were to all stay the way it is)? Kind of like the NFL with division winners.

Seemed weird as I was watching but, like you say, a lot of football left to play. I suspect a lot of it will work itself out.

Yes, you have to win a Big 4 conference to get a bye.

That is indeed the rule, which is flawed if a crappy conference gets a bye vs a great BIG second place team.
BYU ranked 9 but gets a 4 seed.

But again, it's the NFL model. For example, last year 11-6 Philadelphia playing AT 9-8 Tampa Bay.DWags wrote:MiamiSpartan wrote:I assume OSU doesn't get a bye because they aren't a conference winner (if it were to all stay the way it is)? Kind of like the NFL with division winners.

Not saying I agree (I don't with the NFL either), but they chose to follow that model rather than the NCAA Tournament model.
College football also loves debate and controversy over the post-season. It's almost like they create rules to lead to more arguments.

OSU gets a home game, and then the easiest quarterfinal game. I think they’d be OK with that.

And they still could.
Either way (if they win the Big Ten, or lose again to Oregon), they won't be seeded 5 at the end. I'd guess the 5 seed will be an SEC team.

Just win always seems to work. I have always liked the debates surrounding the playoffs. Obviously the 12 team won't get them to stop.
How great would it be to have a decent team and be in the Big 12? Make the playoff get the bye.
Alabama 2 losses in the playoff.
Army, will they ever get a chance? SOS is 125, but they're doing quite well.
Lots of football left and a long way to go.

ND @ Penn State would be a crazy atmosphere.
And I saw one projection with Bama @ IU (with IU winning). I'd take Bama all day in that match up.

Might depend on the weather. Would love to see some of these Southern teams play a game in 30 degrees rain/sleet or a snow game like ours against PSU a few years ago.NigelUno wrote:DWags wrote:

2 weeks from now things will look differently and we’ll see more gymnastics by the committee trying to maximize TV audience.

I could easily see a quick move to 14 teams, with the SEC and Big 10 Champs getting byes.
BYU getting slotted into the quarterfinals is a flaw.

I kind of look at it like the way the Big Ten had been set up for years. The two teams that played in the championship game weren’t necessarily the two best teams in the league
I do think every conference champ should definitely be in the playoffs. I don’t think every conference champ deserves byes.

Let's say BYU gets the 4 slot and a bye. tO$U or tSEC runner-up gets the 5 spot (possibly without having to play in their conference championship game) and a home game against #12, likely the non-power four conference champ qualifier. Easy dub + bonus home game. Then they face BYU at a neutral site. Not a bad spot to be in.

For sure. OSU might have the best draw in that whole bracket...for now obviously.
