Marcotte recalled that Catherine Rampell and Youyou Zhou of the Washington Post showed before the election that voters overwhelmingly preferred Harris’s policies to Trump’s if they didn’t know which candidate proposed them. An Ipsos/Reuters poll from October showed that voters who were misinformed about immigration, crime, and the economy tended to vote Republican, while those who knew the facts preferred Democrats. Many Americans turn for information to social media or to friends and family who traffic in conspiracy theories. As Angelo Carusone of Media Matters put it: “We have a country that is pickled in right-wing misinformation and rage.”

It usually comes down to a couple of issues. This time it was inflation and the border, and voters perception of those issues, rightly or wrongly. It can’t be both “THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION EVER” and “oh well, you tried hard”. Lessons need to be learned. People need to be fired. The head of the dnc still has a job. He needs to step down 4 days ago. You don’t get to claim that we’re fighting literal fascism and to save democracy itself then throw your hands up and say better luck next time. There needs to be accountability, they need to figure out how to win.
Doing everything right means winning, period. Unless all of those things you said about how important this was were bullshit. Which, to be fair, you probably didn’t know it was bullshit. But the party elites who stand to personally benefit from a Trump administration probably did. And they need to go.

The number one reason the Democratics lost is that the playing field is tilted.
With the right-wing media pumping lies into people's heads, the over 50% of the voters who only watch right wing media it really doesn't matter what the Democratics try to do in a campaign.
You all apparently want to be part of a circular firing squad that the pundits (and Democratics jockeying for power in the party) are holding just fine without you.
I am pointing out a major problem here.
Re: I'm going to be a "low information" citizen from now on.
Maybe part of the problem is the right pays attention to the media and the left says it’s horrible, avoid! You literally have people on this board who get all their information right here. I plan to watch, listen, and read more than ever for the next four years so I can make informed decisions, and keep an eye on what Trump is up to.Trapper Gus wrote:Travis of the Cosmos wrote:

Having the field tilted at an 85-degree uphill direction is a big part of the problem and if you don't factor that into your thinking you will continue to lose.

I won’t look for it now, but a couple weeks before the election I asked, “if the democrats were hauling in all this money, why is it that I only am seeing fear adds by Trump”.
Was told by all the youngins on this here board because this boomer was watching certain tv shows or listening to certain radio stations and don’t worry cause the Dems have it covered with social media advertising. Right on, I thought.

No, she really fucking didn't trapper. This is hindsight speaking here, but our political party is supposed to be better able to avoid these kinds of traps and now there are some things that are just so incredibly obvious. Remember, they had more than a billion dollars behind the entire operation. Biden/Harris did almost nothing to dispel the right wing propaganda throughout their 4 years. Trump and his mob were campaigning for 4 years straight, defining dems every step of the way while dems admittedly got good things done some how but didn't do a damn thing to promote the good things and push back on the propaganda. And they had the levers of government at their disposal so that actually should have been a much easier job with such coordinated machinery backing them. It's much easier to set narratives if you're in power and then campaign on it. Instead, we didn't look ahead and see what trump was actually doing and what we were doing were making our party fat and lazy. Now we are fucked like Penn in the villages, florida after riding his golf cart around with a hand sewn trump flag waving proudly. Right now he's having sex with a lot of old ladies in the mud and the rain, and it's possible a man could've slipped in. There'd be no way of knowing.

Having the field tilted at an 85-degree uphill direction is a big part of the problem and if you don't factor that into your thinking you will continue to lose.
Biden and Harris had the levers of the entire united states government to level the playing field and the only thing they did was run a re-examination of Trump's actions as an investigation and a couple weak investigations by the justice department. Like it or not, we're in an information war and they failed miserably. The party quickly needs to learn how to operate in this environment or we're going to lose again because now Trump will have every lever of government behind him for at least two years and the playing field will be even further tilted.
We lost the popular vote dude. If that's not proof of failure, nothing is. There's no greater piece of evidence that there's a tilted playing field than winning the popular vote and losing the actual election.

Right wing owns social media right now. Literally and figuratively. The left desperately needs to counter that.
Need to fully divorce from the right wing ecosystems and form our own bubble on other platforms. We're in an information war and if we don't play the game they will easily win again. Unfortunately playing the game means creating a competing information bubble.

Regardless, the left wing media ecosystem as currently composed is failing, and needs to be overhauled or replaced entirely.
