Re: SNL 40th special on now
I hate SNL.
I think the show has become a complete turd, and has been run into the ground. What any brand does when they are hopeless (see UofM football) is mine the past. I loved some periods of the show growing up but just find the whole thing a shell of its former self.

Re: SNL 40th special on now
It's had good seasons and bad ones but it's held on for 40 years. That's a long damn time. I still find some humor in some of the skits and I still find some of them not so funny. That's how I felt 10 years ago and that's how I felt 40 years ago.steveschneider wrote:I hate SNL.

Those fuckers from the 70's have generally aged terribly, glad I don't look like that.

SnL certainly attracts some geniuses and when Lorne gets out of their way it works.
Conan is one of the greatest comedy writers of all time, and the cast they had when he was there was the best imo.
I thought it was disgraceful tonight when they mentioned some of the lost cast members during Steve Martin's opener and they neglected to mention Phil Hartman.

I agree they should have named him (and Chris Farley) but it wasn't like they put a list up and showed their pics on the Oscars and forgot Phil. It was a sketch.steveschneider wrote:

Agree Chris should have been mentioned. My mind ran in chronological order during that bit and I was like Phil??? What about Phil??? They didn't mention Phil?! Lionel Hutz!!!! Those schmucks!
I was so frantic I didn't even notice they forgot Chris Farley. You mean to tell me they didn't mention Chris Farley? What the FUCKING HELL??? What a bunch of fuckers!!!!!!

I love SNL, but I don't expect it to be the best show I've ever seen every time I turn it on. That seems to be the hang up for some of you guys.

I watched it off and on for the first hour and a half or so. Like a lot of things of this nature, there were some funny clips, etc. but nothing I'd watch for 3 and a half hours.

It was funny and awkward too.
The show seem unorganized a little. Eddie Murphy was a letdown.
Celebrity jeopardy skit was classic. Norm McDonald was funny.

It seems like people always say SNL sucks because it doesn't have the cast from X years ago. But X years ago they were saying the same thing at the time.

I've had more laughs in one episode of Seinfeld than I've had in the last 20 years of SNL combined together.

Re: SNL 40th special on now
Chevy Chase was a total let down as was Eddie Murphy. Really guys, you don't have more to offer than a couple sentences and some clapping?
I thought they were going to run a reel of the best of Eddie Murphy skits. Especially after the introduction that Chris Rock gave him. Instead, Murphy looked totally despondent and walked around clapping for 2 minutes.
The Wayne's World Top Ten was pretty funny, as was the reel on political satire. Dana Carvey is a top 10 cast members in my opinion. Â
I thought it was a pretty good show. Disorganized for sure. It seemed too hard to give everyone camera time. I also think they should have played more clips with the host(s) setting them up.

There was no way it could have been anything other than disorganized. too many cast members and not enough rehearsal time.
And yes, Dana Carvery is a top 10 cast member of all time.

I would think you could do a death pool just from the people who appeared on the special last night; say each person gets make 3 picks (limit of 1 from the original cast).
Sure you can pick any of the original crew for the easier points, but make a bold choice and go for the bigger points off the younger crowd.

Agreed. That was a miserable impression. It kind of pissed me off. I thought it was a disservice to the memory of Chris Farley.

Could have done without Miley Cyrus and Kanye, and sadly Paul McCartney, and added some more old clips instead.
