I wad diagnosed with hypothyroidism around 16 years ago. And it gets out of whack sometimes. I got that sorted out, and back to watching meals. I've never done WW.
Losing some of the weight by diet first, made it a little easier to get back to working out again because of asthma issues I have.
I'm sure once I'm out of this phase, I will screw it all up like I usually do. And stupid women's bodies make everything harder.
HOLLA!
I had not (and do not) pegged Dendro as a stupid woman.

Re: workout routines?
Every September the skunks descend on my neighborhood to feed on grubs in the pre-dawn hours. We must have the worlds best grubs. I've almost run afoul of the skunks 4-5 times while out walking. Rather than press my luck I moved indoors to the stationary bike, 17.5 miles in 56 minutes.
I don't trust that mileage, though. Sheeeit, I can barely average 13.5mph in the real world.

Nice! I was getting ready to say holding 18 mph for an hour is a nice ride. Always kinda hard to duplicate indoor workouts, be it stationary bike, treadmill, wind trainer, etc. I often rely on time and effort.Floyd Robertson wrote:Every September the skunks descend on my neighborhood to feed on grubs in the pre-dawn hours. keep it up, dude!
makes sense about the skunk situation - I feel like I've gotten more whiffs of a skunk lately.

So Bobby Sak,
How does your nap time correlate to 18 mph on your bike for an hour?

Good question.
I typically have two naps per day. One around 10:30 AM and another around 2:00 PM.
Neither correlate, specifically, with a certain workout or the intensity of a workout. I have found that usually by Wednesday or Thursday, the naps are definitely more needed as "the week" wears on.
Good question, though, and something that is a very fluid situation.

Maybe they've eaten all the neighborhood grubs and moved on.

I actually thought about your skunk situation yesterday morning when I was out around 6:15 and saw one (I think it was a skunk.. it was dark) scurry across in front of me.Floyd Robertson wrote:Thursday pre-dawn 5.04 miles walked

Re: workout routines?
as I begin transitioning from cycling/mountain bike season into more steady running season, just picked up a new pair of running shoes.
now I just need the weather to cooperate. Summer in September is driving me insane.

Hiked 9 miles after the rain moved out this morning, barely 300' of elevation, but it was fun nonetheless.

Same here. I waited until around 10:30 this morning to hit the saddle, which is late for me.Floyd Robertson wrote:Hiked 9 miles after the rain moved out this morning, barely 300' of elevation, but it was fun nonetheless.
I just didn't feel like being wet and cold.

been wearing a weighted vest when hiking recently.. it's subtle but definitely adds some intensity.

Re: workout routines?
AARP has an article with five tests to see how well you're aging. The first is the walk test, how long it takes you to walk a mile.
Converted to MPH for men in their 60s, it says you have to be doing more than 4.26 MPH to be in excellent heath, between 3.95 and 4.25 to be good and
3.68 to 3.94 to be average. Total BS. On my best days I can do about 3.94 mph (outdoors) and there's no way I'm only in "average" health.
Anyway, interesting metric/article.
I think you have to be a paying customer to see this, but here's the link:

and, yeah, those sorts of things are almost controversial by design. Sounds like something to use as a loose guideline but definitely not a final declaration on fitness level.

I have always heard or read that 3.5mph is the average walking speed, so anywhere between 3-4 you're not far off the average.

Played racquetball today for the first time since last winter. Went surprisingly decent. Gonna be sore tomorrow though.
