The Neil Peart fans a a strange bunch too - he's a fucking drummer. But then again I have never enjoyed a drum solo, ever. They are all shit.

Figures. And he's dead, so can no longer do drum solos, which I like. Shame The Who refuse to die though. What a bunch of twats.

Totally agree.
Q: How do you make 1 minute feel like 10?
A: Drum solo.

Keith Moon's drumming was musical, instead of just rhythmic. He didn't solo very often. He tuned his toms in an interesting way so that his flourishes always stood out to me.

Best drummers that everyone has heard of, sure. Whatever.

Meh. As a Jazz drummer he was technically great, it always felt like something was missing in the soul department though. I have only heard a smattering of his stuff though.

I've always thought in the current scene that Taylor Hawkins is pretty damn impressive.Rocinante wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:I'll go with Buddy Rich.

Dude can sing too - did Rock and Roll in Wembley with John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page.. and pulled it off in a most impressive fashion.
Fast forward to about 2:30

Quick answer to the OP's question: No. Fly by night away from there.
(Easy and obvious, but it hadn't been done yet.)

Years ago, my brother was at a concert in GR and sat down next to BR. The conversation started with my bro asking the cliche, "Hey, aren't you...?" and Rich replying with the "Yeah, kid, but keep it down."
They spent the show chatting about drums and drummers. My brother had a blast. Rich probably wanted a restraining order.

+1. Mine too.
I consider him the best... the stuff I've seen from him has just blown me away.

They played Closer to the Heart? Dammit, I wish I was able to go see them in Buffalo. I thought they don't like playing it at shows.
Actually, just looked at the setlist. Disappointed to miss Cygnus X-1, and the entirety of 2112, but overall, it's kind of a lackluster setlist. Didn't see Freewill, Spirit of Radio, or Red Barchetta.

Re: Should I go to a rush concert ?
GREAT article on Rush. Seriously one of the best article on a band I've read.
From Rush With Love
From Rush With Love
Neil Peart drives like he drums. On a bright mid-April afternoon in Los Angeles, fresh from a rehearsal with his band, Rush, for what might be their last big tour, he powers his pristine, silver, Goldfinger-style 1964 Aston Martin DB5 onto an exit ramp off the 405 at highway speed, slowing not at all — speeding up, maybe — into a sharp, perilous curve. Call it the way of the Peart: daunting technical mastery paired with a penchant for the gloriously excessive.

Here's a very underrated drummer: Phil Collins. Dude was very good before he became a massive douche as the leader of Genesis (so before Steve Hackett left the band).
