In fairness to Peppers his impact and inspiration, much like his stats, didn't have to actually happen to get credit.

Wonder if the NFL gives the teams a heads up on specifics?

Also wonder if the NFL has improved their testing where markers for substances on the banned lists will peak to a specific level to indicate the player is involved in some sort of cover up.

Peppers and his family have been plotting this day since he was recruited to play parochial HS football. His agent knew the goal was for Peppers to make the hype last a few more months.

I don't think it was as much Peppers and his agent being dumb as the NFL is getting more sophisticated when looking at test results.

That’s how it works; no testing occurs (either substance-abuse or PED) until a player signs his rookie deal or inks a participation agreement that promises he’ll receive the contract he would have gotten if he suffers a serious injury during offseason workouts. Regardless of whether Peppers didn’t sign a participation agreement with the specific purpose of avoiding drug testing, that’s the practical result.

Despite the nonchalance projected by coach Hue Jackson regarding the decision of Peppers to decline to sign a participation agreement, it’s a very rare occurrence. Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman did it in 2005. Last year, Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa actually signed a participation agreement and showed up for rookie minicamp before refusing to engage in any further workouts until he received his four-year deal.

Having grown up in Cleveland, being a Browns fan back when they were competitive almost every year, this current incarnation of the team is pure, unadulterated dog shit. 18 years of drafts and most of them would have been better if they had monkeys throwing darts at the draft board. Probably received a letter. Maybe it was sent through the UM athletic department. I'm not sure. But he most likely received a letter inviting him to attend. There might have been an email before the letter, too.
