Can't wait for our petulant President to lecture America on guns again - that never gets old. I only hope that Hillary picks up that torch and makes gun control a leading issue of her campaign - that's always a winner for Democrats.

the NRA laughs itself all the way to the bank - which is why they enjoy mass shootings. They prey upon their intellectually vulnerable followers - usually mention something about the black man in the White House to make sure their bigoted/racist bases are covered..

and, right on cue, the mouth-breathing and knuckle-dragging target audience run to the gun shops..

it's a pretty brilliant strategy in terms of money-making schemes.. unfortunately, though, they have to rely on the senseless murder of innocent people to pull it off. They just see it as collateral damage, though.

oh - and, of course, I'll pray for the victims and their families... since that seems to help.

CNN says there are 1-3 shooters. Early reports are always fluid. I wonder if it's a crazed lunatic or a coordinated act of terrorism.

It sounds like it was at a social services center which either housed or helped trained physically/mentally disabled. Early reports are always sketchy.

It was a gun free zone. It's always helpful to advertise to shooters that they won't get shot back at until the cops show. Then again it's California and they make open carry and concealed carry extraordinarily difficult.

Of course this and all of Bob's post ignore the actual fact that as the number of guns in the US has risen the number of murders using guns has fallen by half.

CA has registration, tests, waiting periods, magazine limits, universal background checks, “assault weapons” ban.

ALL of the liberal talking points are already in force there...so the only thing left is confiscation. Good luck with that.

I really do try to understand the perspective of gun nuts. It all boils down to:

1. they don't trust their government.
2. they don't trust law enforcement, which is part of the government.
3. they don't trust ordinary citizens (because ordinary citizens might have guns).
4. but they want the rest of us to trust them with their guns.

This is really strange. It's not fitting the usual narrative of these events. 1-3 gunmen.  Bomb squad on scene, gunmen escaped prior to the police arriving.  Yet everybody's just milling around the scene as though nothing's going on.

What is UP since the 1993 Peak is the 24 hour news cycle and the demand for programming to draw eyeballs.

Thus the "mass shooters" got wall to wall coverage. Spawning more mass shooters. Does anyone recall how the number of streakers plunged once they stopped showing them on television? Same thing, give them coverage and the nuts will seek the notoriety.

no - you actually understand it quite well.

They react to fear, paranoia and emotion.. and, often, bigotry and racism. And they have one big entity - the NRA - which manipulates these emotions quite well to their economic advantage.

look at it this way: if last week's Planned Parenhood murders and today's murders were committed by brown people with bombs, they'd demand action. Instead, they're committed by people with guns so, of course, they can't demand action because the NRA has conditioned their vacuous intellect to believe otherwise.

Gun Violence dropped tremendously from its peak in the early 90s to 2000 due to the end of the crack epidemic.  Stayed more or less static as it had before the spike in the late 80s early 90s We're back on the rise, but yes we are much lower than the peak.  Lies, damn lies and statistics.

so far, Jeb Bush and Mike Huckabee have tweeted out "thoughts and prayers".. Hillary tweeted "I refuse to accept this as normal. We must take action to stop gun violence now"..

what the hell is wrong with her? Shouldn't she just stick to sending out "thoughts and prayers".....

If you read what I posted you'd see that's when the crime rates took off - the 1960s and 1970s. But it fits the narrative better to use the crack theory.
