Please lay out how the USPS is like the AFA.
This should be good.

Both are run by bureaucrats/political appointees with little to no concept of how a business works and the profit/loss concept, oh, and they're pretty indifferent to the concept of customer service.

The AFA isn't doesn't produce anything. It merely mandates coverage and facilitates the consumer/provider relationship. There is no need for anyone to understand the "profit/loss" concept. It's up to the individual providers to maintain their own viability. A very conservative / republican concept, no?
Are you always this dumb, or is it just Friday?

The AFA isn't equivalent to the USPS, it is just a first step in the liberal dream of nationalized health care. The performance of the USPS is just a preview of what you can expect if you achieve your dream.

Okay well, get back to me when electronic health care makes conventional health care basically irrelevant. We can have this conversation then.

Had to ship a package two weeks ago and it was a miserable experience. The customer service sucks, there's long lines, the automated machines are always being used by some moron that takes like a half hour to figure the damn thing out and not only that there were no labels, or forms out so that you could help yourself.
I'm to the point where I'll pay the extra 15-20.00 to ship through UPS going forth just to avoid the hassle.
That being said, I think the republicans want the post office to fail. They are anxious for it to be privatized. The post office has proposed a few fixes to help modernize it and congress won't act to fix it.

Financial relief sought includes allowing the USPS to fund their pensions like UPS and other competitors. Congress refuses to allow changes in delivery (Like no Saturdays)
But Congress has no interest in making such changes. A healthier USPS means a potential viable competitor rather than handing over more business to UPS or FedEx. You know, " the free market".

I am always in awe when I stop to drop off packages at the post office (about once a week) of the idiots standing in line. I always get at least one dirty look when I walk right up to the corner of the desk say "prepaid" leave my packages and walk out. With usps.com and stamps.com whey would you need to talk to someone at a counter to ship a package? Do you need someone to hold your hand while you piss too? I can create a shipping label and print it at home in under five minutes.

Since a lot of book stores and video rental businesses have gone under, I guess the righties would have to say that the private sector is a failure.

Did any those businesses have a government mandated monopoly to prevent competition? No one expects you to be good at making an analogy, but could you try not to be a total idiot?

You didn't get the point. If you say that government monopolies are bad because the USPS is losing money, you'd also have to say that the private sector is bad because some private businesses have lost money.
Sometimes, I wish you weren't too dumb to know when you're being mocked.

Ummm...nope, only you would say that, because you're too mentally feeble to understand the difference between a monopoly and a business that has competition. Please continue.

If you're going to toss around lame personal attacks and insults, at least learn the definition of the words you're using Grandpa. Have someone explain to you what autism is. No one expects you to add anything of substance here ever, but is it too much to ask that you at least demonstrate an I.Q. higher than that of a beach ball?

Sears lost $1.36 billion last year. That means we can't have corporations involved in health care!

When did I say, or even imply, that? Please include accurate quotes. If you can show that I said or implied such a thing, I'll quit mocking your moronic idea that we shouldn't have single-payer healthcare because the USPS is losing money.

Cool - so lets get back to the OP, after you've embarrassed yourself with your idiotic analogy. How is it that a government monopoly can be so badly run that it lose $1.9 billion in three months, and yet you are confident that the same government can run an infinitely larger healthcare monopoly efficiently? I look forward to your learned answer, or more likely another utterly idiotic analogy. Perhaps maybe you have one about what some MSU coach thinks about the issue.

Fail! As I said, I now have two reasons to mock you...
Energy Future Holdings lost over $18 billion in five years and is now over $50 billion in debt - that's why we can't have the private sector making our healthcare decisions!
Also...
The above does not include anything about a government-mandated monopoly - but if you pretend that it does, and dodge my question when I call you out on it, you can win an imaginary argument and punctuate your make-believe victory with your favorite emoticon. Hooray!
One more thing: you've now carried your Izzo obsession for nearly a year, and onto another board - all because I once had the nerve to mention Izzo's thoughts on affirmative action in a thread about affirmative action on a Michigan State message board.
Thanks for the entertainment!

OK - I'm done ridiculing you, at least for a little while. Hopefully now you understand the difference between a monopoly - no competition, and all these companies you list that have competition. Now if you could just learn to educate yourself before you open your piehole, maybe this won't happen to you as often. I was really hoping you were going to up your game on the new board, but so far you're just the same dumbass, pathetically trying to play "gotcha" and showing off your stupendous ignorance instead.

The pretend victory: check.
Telling your opponent to "educate" himself after he made you look foolish: check.
The "piehole" mention: check.
The "gotcha" whine: check.
The emoticon: check.
Another typical end to another typical Bullwrinkle argument.

Thanks for joining this discussion; your buddy needed some help.
If it's reasonable to suggest that the government shouldn't run our health care system because the postal service lost money, why is it unreasonable to suggest that the private sector shouldn't run our health care system because Hewlett-Packard lost money?

I think his focus was on how poorly the government is running the US Postal Service, an entity without competition with the exception being package shipping. And since it is a monopoly and it lost money, he assumed that the ACA would wind up in the same position. Since the ACA is not yet single payer, I see your point that comparing that to HP doesn't make sense. But the second place that it doesn't make sense is that HP has competitors....

His apparent contention is that a goverment-established healthcare monopoly would be bad, because a government-established postal monopoly lost money. Using his reasoning, you would also have to say that a private-sector non-monopoly healthcare system would be bad, because private-sector non-monopoly Hewlett-Packard lost money.
Bullwrinkle evidently believes that one example is all it takes to reach a conclusion, so I went with that. It's mockery, but it's fair mockery.

Sorry clown - it was your "reasoning" that decided to compare corporations with competitors to government monopolies that have none. It's bad enough you were ignorant enough to bring it up, but don't pin that "reasoning" on anyone else but you. For every company that loses money, how many are profitable? Even your example of HP is laughably wrong. If you had bought stock in HP in 1980, you would today have a profit of 1600% on that investment. Quite the loss there, Pervis.
So, why don't you enlighten us on a government run monopoly that is profitable. We look forward to your learned response.

Bullwrinkle the autistic troll dependent on emoticons is pretty helpless when he has to face facts.
His only comeback is insults, calling folks old and bringing out some of his army of schticks to support his point of view.
USPS is a hybrid. Congress has final say including what offices to close and how the USPS funds their pensions but fools like trollwrinkle see the headline links on Drudge and run with it. He's been doing it for more than a decade.
