Brotein Shakes
Firing up a new regimen next week. Already started the creatine load. Was going to order up some protein for post lift. I've always just gone with the standard whey protein powder or muscle milk from the gym fridge. But there is a lot of new shit out there and with super macro nutrients. I'm not looking to bulk up so I'm looking to try something different at my advanced age.
What are you athletes running with? I know gHost must have must have a post recovery shake cued up for after his triathlon training, rock climbing and guitar playing. Xsang seems like he could be a meathead. WBH has been banging weights at the Planet Fitness. Does OTPT have a post hoop recovery program besides the herb? And some of you old timers must be taking something to stay alive.

Re: Brotein Shakes
I used to do protein shakes and what not when I was in my early to mid 20's and had a real fast metabolism. Now, I jog at like 6mph and watch the Red Wings/Tigers/MSU BBall or argue with you fuckers the entire time and just don't care to sprint for 45 mins straight like I used to... So I just eat like I always have (one large meal per day, almost always a lean meat and drink water the rest of the day). I mentioned this in another thread but I've gained 40lbs since the beginning of August on that diet... I'm afraid shakes will put me over the threshold and I'll start carrying so right now it's a "if it ain't broke" type thing.
Trying to get all my nutrients from natural foods though I may get into the shakes again.

Just go with the basic Whey protein. You won't find a lot of specific information from the manufacturers, but brows the internet and there is a significant amount of chatter about some protien products causing blood in the stool. It happened to me. That shit's a little scary.
Also, if you're not trying to bulk up, why would you need a protein supplement? Can't you get enough from your diet? I would have the same question about creatine.

Those two minutes did for me what a fistful of Viagra couldn't. I went back to the zoo and had my way with every female I could stick my pecker into, and a few I couldn't. Damn near as fun as flinging poo at old ladies.

I don't know how you do one meal a day. I would die. I'm a mult-"meal" guy. I don't eat a lot at any one on time, even for lunch or dinner. Small meals whenever I get hungry.
I assume you were trying to gain 40lbs? Seems counter intuitive to be running and fasting most of the day if so.
Post workout is the most important IMO (regardless of the goals) and I'm usually not hungry or willing fire up a steak afterwards, so I usually go with protein shake/bar and fruit.

I wasn't on a mission to necessarily gain as much as possible but just be and look in very good shape. I do not like body fat one bit so that's why I make cardio or I'd like to start incorporating man makers into my routine as opposed to just lifting heavy weights as I've done up until now.
It's a diet I've had to play with. I used to eat 3-4 meals a day and have 20oz of steak or salmon 4 or 5 nights a week. If I did that now I'd have a nice polar bear layer. So I've dialed it in to one large meal a day. I do snack, sometimes.

Re: Brotein Shakes
IMO best tasting are BSN Syntha 6, MusclePharm Combat, and Cellucor COR-Performance Whey. Always felt like muscle milk was chalky, but that is what the football team takes (took maybe, the Oregon team takes it now at least).
This is literally called the broshake and tastes phenomenal
Ingredients
-8 oz of milk
-1 cup of quick oats
-1 cup of frozen blueberries
-1 banana
-1 scoop of Cookies and Cream protein
-dash of cinnamon
I would blend the oats first then add other dry ingredients and finally milk. Taste is amazing.
I differed slightly from the OG I got the recipe from. OG used the Kroger Brand high protein/low carb vanilla "milk" but I just use regular milk. Although I do like the high protein/low carb stuff, and it can help hitting certain macros, I just already have milk and don't feel like buying that too. OG used Cinnamon Bun MuscleMilk protein but like I said I find MuscleMilk to be kind of chalky and although it does taste good in the shake, Cookies and Cream+ cinnamon tastes better IMO.
Can also use half a serving of oats (1/2 cup) and still get the taste but have fewer carbs.

Re: Brotein Shakes
I've sculpted my pecs over the last six years and am pretty satisfied with the shape. My shoulders have a ways to go. My biceps are great. Before dates I used to do six sets of heavy reps to get the guns bulging.
My big question is what kind of swimsuit should I get for this upcoming beach season and what do you guys do to shave/remove chest hair?

You'd have to eat a hell of a lot...
The recommended daily creatine dose is five grams. That’s about two pounds of beef, or three pounds of chicken a day. It takes a pound and a half of herring, the best fish source for creatine, to provide five grams of creatine.
It’s very difficult for vegetarians to get enough creatine from diet alone. Cranberries are commonly cited as a good source of creatine, but that’s only relative to other plants. Five hundred pounds of cranberries is equivalent to the standard five grams of creatine.
http://www.schwarzenegger.com/fitness/post/creatine-isnt-just-for-building-muscle
Creatine supplementation isn’t just beneficial for getting a few more reps under the bar. The latest research shows it can have a positive effect in a lot of places. Lets look at some of them:
Neurological disease
Studies show that creatine supplementation improves the effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a kind of antidepressant.
Creatine’s ability to provide emergency ATP also protects neurons. Neurons have a greater chance of resisting the damaging effects of toxins if they have a source of energy, which is why creatine is being investigated for its potential to fight Parkinson’s disease.
Creatine may improve the effects of antidepressants and might be able to help fight Parkinson’s disease.
Diabetes
People with type II diabetes have to monitor their fasting blood glucose. High levels of blood glucose are associated with the nerve, eye, and kidney damage caused by diabetes. Creatine doesn’t reduce fasting blood glucose, but it can improve the effects of exercise on circulating blood glucose.
Creatine activates a protein called AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which increases the rate at which cells take in glucose and fatty acids from the blood. Creatine supplementation results in muscles drawing up more glucose during exercise.
Other antidiabetic therapies like Metformin and berberine also target AMPK. Creatine’s effect on blood sugar is less potent than these medicines.
Working out after creatine supplementation doesn’t just help you build muscle. Creatine increases the rate at which muscles take up glucose from the blood, which is beneficial for people with type II diabetes.
Cognition
Creatine can even improve memory formation and retention. Vegetarians and vegans supplementing creatine will experience the most benefits to cognition, since people who avoid meat tend to be relatively creatine deficient.

The food and drug administration does not regulate supplements, so not only would you really need to trust the company that you are buying it from, the claims that it is needed beyond the amounts you get in your diet, other than for muscle mass building and maybe some surgical recovery are dubious. I don't think that the claims that your examine.com link makes are as strong as they assert.

You don't need to really trust the company to buy plain creatine monohydrate... and at 10 cents per serving it is ridiculously cheap to not take those 5g/day.

Through countless examples, I choose by default to not trust companies that have no reason to tell the truth about what the benefits of their products are. The FDA has very little regulatory authority over supplements beyond establishing if a product is clearly not safe. Because there's almost no regulatory framework, the concentrations of the effective compounds in supplements can vary widely.
I think that the guy that runs that site has a monetary stake in selling supplements. I only spent a few minutes researching him ("Sol Orwell" - not his real name) but that's how it reads to me. The mayo clinic is much less bullish on the benefits of creatine. Again, I think it's great if you're trying to build muscle mass.
Bottom line, I'm not going to agree with you on this one.

examine v mayo looks basically the same just with different scales
examine has grading (they also include magnitude of effect whether its increase, decrease, or none)
4 - Robust research conducted with repeated double-blind clinical trials
3 -Multiple studies where at least two are double-blind and placebo controlled
2 - Single double-blind study or multiple cohort studies
1 - Uncontrolled or observational studies only
where Mayo grades
A - Strong scientific evidence for this use
B - Good scientific evidence for this use
C - Unclear scientific evidence for this use
D - Fair scientific evidence against this use (it may not work)
F - Strong scientific evidence against this use (it likely does not work)
if you're worried about what's in your stuff use https://labdoor.com/
for creatine the only products that rate low are the ones with all sorts of other shit in them
plain creatine, 5g per serving, 5g actual, cheap as shit

I don't get what you're talking about. It shows up on my phone screen just fine. I'm posting from a 5s, and I code in the same way as others do and all the sudden I'm hearing it's a problem. I wonder what gives.

My big question is what kind of swimsuit should I get for this upcoming beach season and what do you guys do to shave/remove chest hair?

D - Fair scientific evidence against this use (it may not work)
F - Strong scientific evidence against this use (it likely does not work)
if you're worried about what's in your stuff use https://labdoor.com/
for creatine the only products that rate low are the ones with all sorts of other shit in them
plain creatine, 5g per serving, 5g actual, cheap as shit
https://labdoor.com/review/bodybuilding-com-micronized-creatine
I have a creatine supplement on my shelf right now. I'm not worried about it. I'm saying the evidence for it's benefits beyond for building muscle is weak.
I'm also saying there are a lot of supplements out there that make claims based on weak or nonexistent evidence. Including some of the claims for what creatine does or how much you need/should take.
