I like the idea of "The Bob Scale" to measure varying degrees of worry, anxiety or concern.The_Dude wrote:On a scale of 1-Bob, I am not worried..
Similar to the Richter scale.. but for emotional distress.

Yea, as we've seen this past month, message boards can inflict great emotional stress on grown men. Who knew?

You don't have to. All you have to do is be a regular poster on a message board. All that stuff is brought to you, all in one place.
But you know this already. You're not dumb, you're just playing dumb.
So Vlad, since you're pretty worked up about me not knowing Evans' baggage, how would I know anything about it?
I don't go on rcmb. This is the only board I post on. So I would have to go into the crootin thread, click one of gooses links, give a fuck to actually take in what some croot retweeter has to say about a guys ceiling.
Not trying to Nigel you, but it seems like you don't really know what the fuck you are talking about either.
There's your problem right there. You have to go on the RCMB. You just have to. It's that simple.
Anyway, the red flags with Evans were about his commitment to the classroom, at least from the references made back when he "de-committed" from Wiscy and later committed to us. Sounded like sour grapes from Wiscy fans at the time, but now we know. Recruiting insiders typically don't react with "good riddance" to a four-star recruit who signs elsewhere.

Re: Evans and Sweat are gone.
On a strictly utilitarian view point, we paid about 28 grand for Evans. We probably beat OSU in large part to the type of game he had. He wasn't the only one, but we most likely beat OSU because of having him.
We went to the playoffs and won a big ten championship because of that game.
He's now gone. 28 K for that. Well worth it. Great return on a small investment.
Good luck to him. He'll play on Sundays. We got to enjoy a big ten championship because of his efforts. Everyone wins.

Evans was a key factor in the OSU game. That game setup well for him and he delivered.

True, on a strictly utilitarian level. But there was sooooo much more to be gained....The kid was the best run-plugger we've had since Worthy, and could even blow up the pocket from the inside. Was probably on his way to being a stronger version of Worthy.
Oh well...fuck it.

Re: Evans and Sweat are gone.
Kid had huge potential, but MM is a freak and we should all enjoy his last year. He had one monster game and it was very impressive.
I've heard his work ethic wasn't as good as it should, so allt hat potential might never ha e been reached. We won't know now. If somebody can get hiim motivated, oh my. If you can't, that OSU game might be the peak of his career.

That word "freak" always reminds me of Boo Boo Thompson. Now there was a freak!
Of course, Boo Boo is in a mental institution now for throwing a man off a third-floor balcony, so...anyway...
What were we talking about again?

When you sign a highly recruited player with "pre-existing conditions", and his tenure amounts to a few snaps in his one and only season as a contributor, some might consider that getting burned. I get that you wouldn't, but some might. It's not something you have to figure out, its more of a feeeeeel.
I'm feeeeeling a little burned, ok Nigel? Is that ok with you?

As for Evans, think back. I'm sure you'll recall some red flags, Â Even if you don't follow recruiting. (If you're a regular poster on an MSU message board, chances are you do follow recruiting, at least a little bit. You like to think that you're above it, but you're not.)
Right.... and you realize that we been to Rose, Cotton, etc.  Should we re-rank those classes to make us feel good?  Most classes have a lot of attrition, especially SEC classes that everyone jerks off to on signing day.  Not sure I see the point of that exercise. After the Rose Bowl win, I didn't re-rank recruiting classes. I double fisted beers in Pasadena.
You and me both brother.Â

Re: Evans and Sweat are gone.
Evans had to sit out spring ball '15, his redshirt year, because of off field issues that he needed to clean up before fall practice.
Dantonio commented Sweat was "in limbo".
Both players probably had things they knew had to be addressed by last weekend / Monday or they would no longer be on the team.
Player draft for spring game Tuesday so Dantonio cuts ties Monday evening.

Adverse selection I think is the term we are looking for here. Saban and Bobby suffered a lot from it. Although dudes like Plaxico, Boo Boo, Underwood and Evans did provide some production.

Probably and I simply don't get it. How can so many of these young college athletes choose pot over playing the sport they love ?

Think he's ok with them drinking? Football is a weird sport. Everyone expects these guys to be angels off the field and wants them to be criminals on the field. I think coaches are more concerned with their players staying out of trouble, academically and criminally.gHost Spartan wrote:Even if marijuana was legal that doesn't mean that Coach D is going to be okay with dudes blazing.

I think it's Dantonio's nature to be very forgiving. My guess is these guys messed up more than a few times, for it to get to this point. I don't think he's necessarily OK with them drinking, but he realizes they're college kids.

Re: Evans and Sweat are gone.
I'm with you here. Complete speculation, with no information whatsoever. I think one or both liked to party, and were probably having troubles academically. I'm guessing they were told that terms of staying with the team were to get tutored and go to classes. I think Dantonio is one of those that doesn't care what you do on your time, as long as you don't get in trouble, and keep your shit straight.NigelUno wrote:InTenSity wrote:
