I vaguely remember playing a few shows there in 2003/2004 but when I looked them up there was no mention of an upstairs or live music.

It would cost a lot. Real estate downtown and in midtown is in demand.

The thing with this is, you've got an ancient building with a tiny footprint. It would probably require major renovations to become presentable and/or a desirable place to go.

Maybe the place has some music die-hards but frankly its biggest selling point is its location and proximity to Jefferson. Seems like with JLA going away, the focal point of downtown will be Campus Martius Northward and I doubt that place will get much foot traffic. Who knows.
