That is what fascism often does, right? Same thing in Nazi Germany. Hitler and his Nazi thugs played on a range of grievances, identified scapegoats for Germany's problems, and promised to fulfill the German nation's destiny by essentially making Germany great again (it was not so great during Weimar, especially after the Great Depression).
