RIP to da NCAA Kickoffs? Empty RIP to da NCAA Kickoffs?

Post by Floyd Robertson 2016-07-18, 13:47

Discussions about eliminating kickoffs in college football have begun

Preliminary discussions have begun within two influential college football bodies into possibly removing kickoffs from the game, CBS Sports has learned.

Both the American Football Coaches Association's board of trustees and the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee have at least had informal talks about the possibility.

Booo.

What's next, no punting and field goals?

Good. MSU is terrible at kick returns and kickoffs.

Favors the teams who are heavy favorites in games. No chance for a lightening strike and momentum changer for underdogs.

I think it would all even out, because the better teams are better at special teams anyways.

Special team leaders by conference last year. Special team efficiency:

Pac 12. Washington

ACC. UNC

Big ten OSU

Big 12 Kansas State

SEC. Tennessee.

Pick out the conference champs.

We were 13th in our league
Clemson was 14th in their league
Bama was 2nd in their league

Oklahoma was 8th in their league.

Jesus fucking mother of sanders Joseph Fuckminster. It's just tiring.

Wags,

do you not believe that in general, more often than not, the top teams are better in regards to special teams than the average and bad teams?

No.

Of course it helps. If that's what you're asking. I'd take a number one team rather than a number 53 team. But give me an offensive and defensive line that kicks ass and you can tell me I'll be tenth best inthe conference I wouldn't care.

Kickoffs are part of football. Sucking isn't a reason for eliminating them.

How so? Good teams are always good in special teams as a general rule. Bama is about the best every year. MSU has been great outside of last year.

Showing a small sample size and exceptions don't prove anything.

Again, as a rule of thumb, good teams have better special teams than bad teams.

Ivy League changes rule to move kickoff to the 40-yard line

PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) — The Ivy League will use an experimental rule this season to move kickoffs to the 40-yard line and touchbacks to the 20-yard line

Shut it down, scrap football.
