year in all sports since little league. Familiarity had bred some contempt and
hard feelings which translated to some very hard hitting. By the 2nd Q the starting
center no longer knew who he was to block so the guards had to give him a number
to go after as they went to the line for each play.

The only score in the 1st half was a field goal by the home team to make it 3-0.
Halftime was like no other in memory, the coaches had very little to say but praise
and encouragement. As the 2nd half started the opposing team ran the opening kickoff
back for a touchdown and converted the 2 point conversion to make it 8-3. Perhaps
the 11 were wearing down?

No, that wasn't the case. The teams fought most of that 2nd half in the middle of
the field until with about 3 minutes to go the home team capped a drive with a touchdown
and a 2 point conversion to make the score 11-8. And with a sack on the last play
of the game a hail mary was thwarted and the home team won.

The same 11 players had never left the field, they had done what many thought impossible.
They had persevered when no one believed in them and beaten the 2nd ranked team in
the state.

Only 10 of those 11 are still alive and I guarantee you that none have forgotten
that night. We didn't have a great season that year but we do have that great memory.

Michigan State CAN win Saturday, never doubt a determined underdog.
