I heard they were considering Greg Oden as the replacement, but they thot he was too old.

Damn. Just read the article. He's only 49. I thought he was at least my age (60). It's hard to believe that his resignation isn't something health related, no matter how hard he tries to say otherwise.

Reading some journo comments on twitter, Geno is basically throwing Thad under the bus, saying recruiting wasn't good enough.

Thought he did a pretty good job there. He got them to a championship game and it seems like all the talent leaving early hurt him last year.

That's odd if they're forcing them out.  There are basically 3 teams from the Big Ten that have had long term success the last 20 years.  1) and by a fairly large margin, MSU  2) and 3)  You could basically flip a coin between OSU and UW.  May give an edge to UW based on the last several years, but OSU has a solid program for a long time.

Wow. I would have put in at 65 easy.

Matta is 49 and had a bad outcome to back surgery done in '07.

According to the link, since surgery he can't walk without a back brace, can't run or golf.  The surgery screwed up nerves in his right leg and he has  permanent drop foot.

Maybe doctors told him to retire or do more damage.  Could be AD Smith made some inquiries and will name a new coach who may not have been available if he waited another season.

OSU won't be playing the cash strapped card so paying off a contract won't be a big deal.

Aren't they going to talk to Stevens, or attempt to? No way would he leave an NBA gig voluntarily for college, unless it's one of THE big boys paying you an absurd amount to go there.
