The Dam May Have Burst, Friends.. NC High School Athletes Will Be Allowed to Get Paid for NIL Starting July 1

and, maybe I've been in the dark this long, but they become the 28th state to allow this?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association's board of directors voted Wednesday to approve a new policy that will allow student-athletes to profit off their name, image and likeness.

Athletes at NCHSAA member schools will be allowed to begin profiting off their name, image and likenesses starting July 1, 2023. The new policy will impact more than 180,000 student-athletes statewide. According to WRAL-TV, North Carolina is the 28th state to allow high school athletes to profit from NIL.

I'm not sure if this is a great idea..

Yeah, we’re a step away from agents and 8th graders.  Good for them. Free enterprise.  Look at weed.  Some thought it was a bad idea. But look at the prices that all are dropping at the various dispensaries.

Right now a bunch of water is being poured into a big open container and it’s sloshing around from left to right and up and down. Eventually it’s going to settle. And it will find its level.

I am all for it when it helps MSU and of course I’m bummed out when it hurts MSU.  I honestly don’t know if I have a line that will just turn me off from watching sports. I’ve pretty much stopped watching most professional sports on TV, may be background noise. I still watch Michigan State. So obviously I haven’t crossed that line yet with college.

Good for the kids. I hope they don’t get exploited by adults.

there were stipulations with it outlined in the article that makes it less 'wild west' than college NIL, but it still just seems pretty odd to me. I'm old and out of touch. I don't know what the kids do these days.

heck, when I was rockin' the slant pattern for Tuscola High School back in the mid-80's and holding for XP's and FG's, I would've been cool with being provided someone old enough to buy me a 6 pack after the game so we could take it to the woods, build a fire and split it between four of us.

Yep. Pat “Weinie” ****** live across from the Football field at Manistee. He’d always buy us beer after victories. He’s still alive. Still lives in the same house, a block from my parents. Flies Trump flags. Probably mid 70’s now. I still wave at him if I see him. I understand he’s still a big fan. But the field is moved.
