They hated good ol 9-3 Earle (as they called him while he was there) He went 81-26-1 but was 5-4 vs Bo.

Earle Bruce was another football coach Iowa State rented.

One story that sticks with me was a Sports Illustrated article about Art Schlichter after his first fall from grace.  Schlichter said he often saw Bruce at Scioto Downs and Bruce knew his starting QB for the first 3 years at Ohio State was a regular at the track's betting windows.

But at Ohio State those first 29 wins were damned important.
