The Friday Awesome Old Movie Thread
This thread will focus on films from my youth that I remember fondly. I will attempt to update every Friday. This weeks film:
Maximum Overdrive
A film by Steven King. The only film directed by Steven King (for a reason). His cameo is right up front. "Honey! Come over here sugar buns! This machine just called me an asshole!"
On June 9th 1987 the earth passed in to the diffuse tail of Comet Rhea-M According to calculations, we would remain in the tail of the comet for the next 8 days five hours twenty nine minutes and twenty three seconds.
I think WOPR must have made that calculation....
Shall we play a game?
This film stars the amazing Emilio Estevez as Bill, parolee and truck stop cook extraordinaire, The voice of Lisa Simpson as a chick that screams "CURTIS!!" all the time, and a bunch of other people. Anyway, passing into the tail of this comet causes all (some) mechanical or electronic devices to go rogue and start attacking or insulting humans. The leader is a semi-truck with the face of the Green Goblin (of Spider-Man fame)
How much did Stan Lee get for this?
So this motley crew is stuck in a truck stop and Emilio does it with the only hot chick. There's some rocket launchers owned by a doomsday preparer (timely!!) and the Steven King theme of crawling through sewer pipes is visited a few different times.
Also the Music is by ACDC!!
Highly recommended for an 80s guilty pleasure.
WE MADE YOU!!!!

They are generally going to be action. Mostly campy, and most often, not huge hits.

That one's a possibility. But I prefer to remember somewhat bad movies. There's more material to make fun of.

That's okay. Awesome is subjective.

John Carpenter used to make decent music for his movies. No one could ever forget the Halloween theme. And then there's also this:Watch Out Pylon! wrote:
