Are "Guided by Voices" a good band?

Listened to a couple songs. They seem cool. Thoughts by tSwill council on fine listening?

Kinda remind me of the Replacements.

They were in 1995

Their catalog is pretty daunting. Pollard has written over 100 albums the crazy thing is the output is pretty damn good.

There’s pretty much 6 albums and two eras that are worth exploring.

Era one is the lo-if era when he was a school teacher and they were recording out of his basement on a 4 track. Don’t let the lo fidelity scare you away this is some of the best stuff.

1. bee Thousand - Gold Star for Robot Boy is so good on this one
2. Alien Lanes - classic and some would argue better than bee thousand - can’t go wrong with either one.
3. Vampire on Titus - start at 1 & 2 first, if you are craving more from the lo-if era this is your next best bet. After that if you need more then it’s all about ep’s and box sets.

The studio era when they were signed and making a living as a band.

1. Under the Bushes Under the Stars
2. Rhine Jive Click
3. Isolation Drills - Glad Girls and Chasing Heather Crazy are two standout tracks.

When I saw all the album's they put out I was like Jesus. Can they really put out that much quality music?

Robert Pollard is passionate there's no question about it. I've read articles that he wakes up, has breakfast and then writes music every day. I'm in the camp that believes he's written a lot of amazing material and I'm not alone.  

They definitely have a huge following in New York city and the shows are usually pretty epic.

I see they're in Charlotte, NC soon.

Makes sense he loves pop music and they wrote amazing pop tunes. Also, the singer sings with a faux British accent.
