Don't expect this to happen overnight. It is going to take a long effort to penetrate Uranus enough to get where we want to be.

It calls for a spacecraft that will orbit Uranus and map its gravitational and magnetic fields. The orbiter would circle Uranus for several years and deliver an atmospheric probe into the planet’s hydrogen sulfide-rich skies.

Looks like Uranus has a lot of stinky gas.

The meteor shower was expected to peak next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and that's good news for metro Detroiters. The National Weather Service said Wednesday and Thursday was expected to remain mostly sunny and dry, before clouds move in Friday. The Eta Aquariids continue through May 27.

I think Venus/Jupiter and Mars, actually.  Venus and Jupiter are  virtually on top of each other, but Venus would be the brightest.  Jupiter may add to the size of it from our viewpoint. Neptune is there, but isn't going to be visible to the naked eye, I dont think.

Big announcement coming today from the Event Horizon Telescope team, the group that imaged the first black hole a few years ago. Speculation (despite warnings to please don't speculate) is that they may have imaged the black hole at the center of our own galaxy (though a few years ago, that's the one that people thought they were going to show, so who knows?).

Was up in Cocoa Beach last week and saw this out on the launch pad (from quite a distance, of course).

Exciting stuff. The first launch of the SLS, the most powerful rocket ever built, and the rocket that will take humans back to a soundstage in Hollywood--err, I mean "the moon"--is on track for possibly as early as late August.

What an incredible image, and only the beginning. An area of space the size of a grain of sand if held at arms length. It is a little hard to wrap my head around it being real, as it looks like it should be a drawing or something.

The Big Dipper is in the Northern sky. I guess it ends up just a little West of North in the wee hours.

Either way, the Google Sky Map app is helpful in finding that stuff out.
