Home security cams?
Anyone have a Ring, Nest or other home security cams? Recommendations?
Some jackholes went through my car last night in the driveway. I got in my car this morning and noticed the tray to my center console was all cockeyed, stuff on the passenger seat and floor. Headphones were missing. Both pass doors weren't fully closed. Checked with the wife/kids, wasn't them. They've been known to swipe my headphones. Checked the back and my gym bag is gonzo as well. Oddly they left a credit card I stash in a the console in case I forget my wallet (though they could of took snaps of it), some Harry & David gift boxes and other random crap.
I wanna hunt these shitbirds down/be prepared for a return visit.

Re: Home security cams?
We got a cheap camera for our cat so we could watching it while we were away from the house. Nest looks good but I'm neurotic about privacy issues. They are owned by google so you'll have Google watching and listening where ever you place it. That being said I'm sure they already know everything about me.
Back to the cat cam, we bought a cheaper Samsung one and it has night vision. I'm sure you could capture good video of anyone vandalizing your car or messing with your house.

home security systems aren't only expensive, but they're impractical.
that's why I prefer just to kill people.

That and preventing the next crime. So you're helping your fellow man. There's no end to doing good.

I have the Ring and while it's neat I'm not sure it would do a whole lot in your situation. Reviewing the video at night is probably not gonna get you the plate or if far enough away, even the make/model of the vehicle.

Couldn't have said it better myself - I'm actually performing a humanitarian mission as I murder someone in my driveway.LooseGoose wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:home security systems aren't only expensive, but they're impractical.

lol, I guess. If you're murdering them. I was thinking some bird shot or rock salt in the ass. Your solution is more permanent though and would save incarceration costs.

we don't believe in "bird shot" or "rock salt" in my neighborhood..LooseGoose wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:Couldn't have said it better myself - I'm actually performing a humanitarian mission as I murder someone in my driveway.

no - I kind of had an unorthodox childhood.LooseGoose wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:we don't believe in "bird shot" or "rock salt" in my neighborhood..

(I have been shot at, though. I was 12 or 13 and me and my buddy were looking through a girl's bedroom window. Her Dad took offense to that as we were running across the yard).

You don't need security cameras, you need booby traps.

Just put a sign up that says “This premises is monitored by security cameras.” Then don’t buy any. It will be enough. Also lock your car dummy.

That’s only effective if you catch them in the act.

Don't get a ring, the squirrels keep setting the motion alarm off.

This. Bob goes house to house every night looking for the unlocked cars. Happens frequently. People will post on the neighborhood Facebook page, someone will say it happened to them, too, police will be notified, and yet Bob remains a free man.

Re: Home security cams?
We got a Ring doorbell last year about this time. After a couple of days we turned off the motion alerts to our phone, be abuse it was just too damn much. It still stores the videos that we can review though.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Don't get a ring, the squirrels keep setting the motion alarm off.
The only problem is that after it detects motion and records 30 seconds, it won't record right away if there is another motion. I'm sure it is to keep from constantly recording if you're in the front yard doing yard work, kids playing whiffle ball, whatever. But it usually needs no motion for a couple of minutes to register a new one, so someone could figure that out.
Overall, I like it. We live in a gated community, but there are still pieces of shit in the neighborhood (especially next door) that I don't trust.
