OTPT has it right. The amount of guaranteed money in the offer last year is in dispute. Rapoport at one point said it was $10m. And obviously he doesn't get the ~$14m on the tag if he signs long term. I also read that he could have been cut after one season and only gotten in the neighborhood of $17m. So he tears his Achilles next year and they cut him loose having only paid him $10-$17m.

As of now no matter what happens he gets $35m. That was the entire point of his holdout.

I'm sure he wanted to land in a better situation but ultimately he got what he wanted.
