LSU Discussion thread
LSU got some dudes. Their big man is a 5 star from New Jersey. Most of the rest of their starters are 4 stars. Need to do some more reading but I think we will have a significant coaching advantage, amplified even more by 5 days of prep. But we aren't going to out dude them.

Re: LSU Discussion thread
Naz Reid seems like he could be a problem if we allow him to be. Kind of like Montrez Harrell back in the day. Their guard is automatic from the FT line.

He was like 94% or something wasn't he?
That dude will definitely be a problem defensively. And the backup is huge, as well. Could be problematic for Nick if we try to feed him or Winston on his dribble drives. Going to need to hit some from the outside.

I feel like he took a lot of FTs and never missed. Not entirely sure what his percentage was.

We're much better defensively. Their point guard seems quick off the dribble. Much like us they're prone to turnovers. We shoot the 3 better. They average five less assists per game. Play good D and I bet we can force them into hero ball or bad shots.

Re: LSU Discussion thread
I haven't watched a lick of LSU before Thursday and didn't really pay much attention then. So really my sample size is yesterday, but why I say that we will have a significant coaching advantage was they were brutal in the 2nd half. When Maryland mounted their run, for a good 10-15 minutes they just didn't run anything offensively. They had no plan whatsoever. Did not seem like they had any sets. They would run a high ball screen for their PG but that was it, no other movement. And then they interviewed the HC after the game and asked about the last play and he basically said he called for a screen. Oh. Ok.
We are guilty of running screen action and letting Cash create often but we have other movement. Our big man rolls, or we set a second screen. LSU didn't really do any of that.

I'm dumb, didn't even realize this HC was their interim. So yeah I'd say there is going to be a MASSIVE mismatch in that area.

I've never put faith in the SEC beyond Kentucky and the occasional Florida team. Seems like the conferences teams below them are all the same. Talent and athleticism with no plan B or adjustments beyond their scheme. If they can out athlete you or get involved with another team with the same MO they can look spectacular flying all over the place making highlight reel plays. But you get them involved in a game where they have to use basketball IQ they can look very average and undisciplined.

This is SEC basketball and in a nutshell. Even Kentucky is just an amped up version of this.

Forgive me if someone else pointed this out, but my mind is blown right now. This game is fate.
The last time MSU played LSU was another NCAA tourney where MSU was a #2 seed, LSU a #3 seed, in the sweet 16. In 1979!!

No doubt in my mind I still have the ticket stub from that ‘79 game in Indy. Finding it might take years.

You're fucked with Duke and VT there pulling. I'm thinking $500 to get in the building for both games and $1k for lowers.

It was $250+fees last night for Friday to get in for the worst seats in the building....We'll see what happens as the week goes on. Duke fans have been buying this up for over a week. Walk up tickets outside will be cheaper.
PS I am all in on Final 4 entry's for next year. Get me those tickets asap.

Well, Steve Fisher was interim coach when he took a completely legit* UM team to the NC.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:I'm dumb, didn't even realize this HC was their interim. So yeah I'd say there is going to be a MASSIVE mismatch in that area.
*only "legit" since that year was outside the statute of limitations of the FBI investigation.

I still have my tickets from the 2000 midwest regionals. The Syracuse and Iowa State games. That Iowa State game was basically the real natty that year. What a game.

I watched a bit of LSU vs Kentucky in that game that had the controversial finish. LSU looked loaded. Is this going to be the best talent we faced so far? Probably down to them or Kansas I’m guessing. Probably a good test for us before we go against Dukes superstar lineup.

Barkley described this game as a "Man's game". "Better buckle up for this one", both teams can bring it and are serious type game.

They have some Star Power.
Reid 6'10" 5 Star Ranked #18
Williams 6'7" 5 Star Ranked #26 (comes off bench)
Waters 5'11" 4 Star Ranked #44 (leading scorer)
$mart 6'4" 4 Star Ranked #35
Will be a good test. They're not a good team defensively though.

Agree......We could use more stuff like this from a few days ago.....
Bill Walton just said "I stopped by the Statue of Liberty today, thinking about freedom, and the ability to go for it all."
Bill Walton is in Las Vegas.
Bill Walton stood outside the Statute of Liberty at the New York, New York Casino

They won the SEC. Not sure how poorly coached they were. Kentucky and Tennessee are pretty good teams.

They don't have their head coach so that is probably a disadvantage. Is some one on the bench qualified? Possibly, I haven't looked at them enough to really determine that. I trust WBH's take on it though.
