Forty years ago I fell in love with MSU. Magic was the first athlete I was aware of and that team was the first championship I was exposed to. Damn I'm getting old.

Me and baseball started our love affair in 1984. I can't imagine that I would give a shit about sports if it hadn't been for the Tigers in the 80s.

26 year anniversary of when the world lost Eric Wright.

My first sports memories start in 1980, so sadly I have no recollection of the '79 hoops team. Odd to because my dad is an MSU grad and sports nut. So it was definitely on in our house.

The build up for the Wings vs. Avs game was insane. Probably the most build up of any game in my lifetime.

My dad went to Indiana State, even played some football back in the late 40's for them. But as long as i can remember, we always rooted for MSU. He passed away my last year at State. He knew I was going to graduate. I never asked him who he rooted for in '79.

I'm guessing he rooted for his kids school.

If my kids go to Michigan (which I encourage them to look at all options), there is no fucking way in hell I would ever root for Michigan over MSU.

Also, could you imagine where the program would be if Jud left for USC after '79? Yikes.
