**** HP !!!!!!!!!! and **** ME

So I had an issue with my 4 month old laptop where my wireless card was not getting the correct speeds. HP sent me a box where there was this form to fill out that said "Yes in the event that the OS needs to be reloaded I want you to save my files". I filled out the form checking that I did want them saved. I get my computer back yesterday and there is a form in the box stating that they did not need to reload the software because they just replaced the wireless card. It also says there was no data migration required. I turn on my machine and it has been wiped clean. It was reloaded and all of my files are gone. I call HP and the guy basically tells me that even though they didn't need to reload the OS, they did and even though I filled out the form to save my files, they didn't. The kicker is that I am now getting SLOWER speeds than when I sent this shit in. I am so fucking pissed off. Hundreds of pictures of my daughter gone, music ? gone. all my homebrew recipes ? gone. So **** off HP you cocksuckers.

Because this computer wasn't that old I hadn't backed it up. So **** off me, you are a cocksucker also.

Do you have a copy of the form? If so, hire a lawyer and sue for damages. It's the American way.

Loss of pictures sucks. If music is on a mobile device as well, he might be able to restore those files.

I do have the music on my phone and honestly wouldnt care that much if I lost them. The pictures being lost is seriously depressing.

Memory card?

Honestly I would raise a huge stink, if not threaten legal action. At the very least they might comp you some shit. Won't get your files back of course.

Sorry man.  Never send a device anywhere without a solid back-up (or 2).  I divorced HP computers a long time ago.  I'm please to see that they actually offer a back-up because that was my primary reason for ditching them.

This. Can't imagine sending a puter out for service without backing up personal data. Furthermore, I would never send one out for service without wiping all personal data from the drive as best I could.

HP blows but the OP has only himself to blame for trusting them

So, nothing wrong with the OS or hard drive and you sent it out for repair without backing anything up?  I disagree with you--you're not an idiot for wiping your memory cards...

I sent it in because they were replacing the wireless card inside the laptop. They admit they were not supposed to reload the OS and if they did they were supposed to save my data,

I do feel bad for you. I would be devastated. I have a ton of pics on my HD of the kids but I do have a external HD I back up to, and have them on 2 machines, as well as my memory cards.

I have taken the liberty of trying to recreate some of your home photos before the new baby was born. I hope this helps.
